Open it in Imageready, then save optimized as

You convert it very, very carefully. You strategically crop pieces you can repeat as background images. Ditto for any box-like elements that will need to adjust in size to accommodate changes in font size (something you can't stop). You choose the best format to export each piece so that you get the most visual impact for the smallest file size. Then you check and recheck your code to make sure you're creating a browsing environment with maximum accessibility, and using your visual elements to their fullest extent. Coding to a particular standard is a good baseline. If you can do that much, you're at least at a reasonable starting point. From there, making the most intelligent, efficient use of the technology is the key.

Oh yeah - don't ever export from any graphic program, ImageReady or otherwise, and use the code it generates. Never.

You mean I can't just use my photoshop html? Why not, there was only 152 w3c errors in it!

Kudos to you! I picked a random number out of my head anyways. I am good and getting my documents to all be w3c compliant except for the icky ones with flash (why people enjoy it i just don't know).

Assuming you are able to view it (JS enabled/supported and ActiveX controls active), and you have the Internet connection that doesn't make you wait forever to view useless content, then you've impressed everyone with your shiny objects.

No...wait...no you won't. ;)

I think it comes with photoshop. If you do not have photoshop then i suggest hiring someone to slice/code it for you.

I am trying some of your answers and I works pretty close of what I am looking for. :D

Well , If you are talking to me I have photoshop CS and Image Ready. I can download it for free in the university, same thing with office xp pro and frontpage 2003.

Unless your university bought one hell of a generous license from these companies, I would not brag about this! You'll get no respect from this or many other developers for your ability to download pirated software

(if this is somehow legal, you have my apologies in advance, but considering how it was presented, this just had to be said)

The university has license for students . So they can download the program or if they want to buy it they offer many discounts for example I had to buy Micromedia Flash MX becuase they do not have the CD for students unless you buy it in the bookstore to 40 % discount. But some others programs are license only for students (You have to show the ID) and you cannot use it as a commercial license , sell it or make a copy.

They should have the license if they give you the opportunity to borrow the CD from the library and download to your computer. I don't think they want to have problem with adobe or microsoft .

How it was present? You said that becuase I can download it free?
Well, after paying 13K :bawling: in tuition per semester I think those products and the laptop they give to each student is included.

When I worked at my school district for two years we had many programs that students could take and use for free (Office, photoshop, autocad to name just a few), but the catch was that they could not be used commercially. If the work you do on it is going to be used in any commercial way it is against the license.

IE. You can download photoshop and use it all you want for free with the student license, but you can't make a website template for your business in it and use it.

I don't have a commercial website . I don't know how to use those products too well that's why I am asking here some question about how to edit a PSD template (no comercial) for my personal site.

You're right those products can only be used as personal license for students. They also sell you the products up to 85% discount with and ID proof but it;s only for personal use and not commercial use. There are also products that you buy for commercial use but can only be use in 1 PC. So if you have a company you have to buy many licenses.

I said I download it for free because I did not pay anything when I get the product but all univ students pay in the tuition a computer fee around 200-600 dlls per semester. Maybe those licenses are included there. Not idea .

Well , this topic was about how to edit a PSD template and we are off topic now.

Take care;)

Well then, that's very handy to know. We never had free use of software, though almost every computer lab came with design software installed across the board. We had the standard cheap access to MS products ($10 for visual studio, $20 for Windows XP, $20 for Office. You were only allowed one copy as an enrolled student, but the university allowed me to purchase three copies of Office total: one when I was an undergraduate (Office 2000), one as a graduate student, and then one when I was faculty for a semester - they needed someone to teach a class in a pinch.

As for the Studio MX and Adobe CS? Those came from the corporate software budget :D

Well , this topic was about how to edit a PSD template and we are off topic now.Ehh, OT happens. I'm glad you have the process figured out, and I'm glad you're not stealing software to do it!

Make sure you save a copy of your tempalte before slicing so you don't have to delete all the slices and start over again each time. You want to slice it so you can use the smallest images possible and then just have them repeat as the background of table cells (loads much faster)
