ok,
i'm sure you have gotten this post a million times but i did all the searching and read all the posts before and i still ahve a few more questions.

i'm planning on getting AMD Package II with Ensim at rackshack.net. i'm sure everyone knows about this deal and the details. i know no unix but i learn fast and i have a hella smart friend will setup everything up for me (including name hosting).
Is there a better deal out there?
I noticed some hosting plans say 50 gigs of outbound traffic, how does this compare to the 300 gigs at rackshack?
i have also noticed some people complaining on the setup of the server, is it really that hard?
if anyone knows any better deal, we are ordering this week, our budget is set for a few hundred dollar setup fee and no more than $130 a month. and if the dude from rackshack wants to cut me a deal on the setup costs cause i'm a poor student he can instant message me on AIM: ethanrol

thanks for everyones time and please feel free to bother me anytime. i plan on becoming a regular here. my email is ethanroelle@yahoo.com too.

Ethan

Yes and No. Yes there are 'better' deals. No you won't find many cheaper ones. If you really need 300GB bandwidth then it is a good option, but at times perhaps 50 or 100GB is more than enough. If this is the case you could well get a server from another company who offers different features compared to RackShack, such as support and configuration services.
I noticed some hosting plans say 50 gigs of outbound traffic, how does this compare to the 300 gigs at rackshack? When I was at school we learnt that 300 was 6 times more than 50. You may also find that they use different carriers, which may or may not be an issue for you.
i have also noticed some people complaining on the setup of the server, is it really that hard??You've already said you don't know how to do this, so 'hard' is only ever relative. For someone experienced it will be easy, for someone who's new it will be more difficult. If RackShack do things correctly then your life is easier ... if they dont ...
if anyone knows any better deal
I know how to read, evaluate and read some more - starting in the "Special Offers" forum. Maybe if you read that you'll find a fair number of dedicated servers within your budget, each of which will have advantages and disadvantages. Then you'll need to look at what your requirements are and make your decision.

Good luck. But remember the old saying ... "you get what you pay for".
