Karolis 11-26-2004, 06:54 PM Money makes money :-) It's not as easy to get a good search engine listing position. Especially when you are optimizing the site yourself. I would choose options like paid search engine listings and, as you've mentioned, local newspapers.
dollar 11-26-2004, 07:30 PM Definatley want to go back and write yourself a nice laid out business plan before you start on this.
1. SEO optomization is not easy and not cheap. SEO Guy offers a free tutorial on the basics which is pretty good, but you're going to have to design your whole website around SEO. If you want your site to 'show up' in google, all you need is for it to be linked to some other site, or you can submit your site to them for the next crawl. If you want a high pagerank, you won't get it for years on any big name search terms. Even the biggest web hosts do not have top position on the search term 'web hosting' or anything like that.
If you don't want to go for a paid service, google SEOGuy or SEO Guy, and hit up his site/forums. Tons of great SEO informaiton there.
2. Those search engine submitters are mostly junk. Just go to all the major search engines and submit your site by hand. It's fast and easy.
boonchuan 11-28-2004, 11:16 AM Google is a good search engine to find all the SEO tips and info. To get a good placement in the search engines really a lot of work and time. Try reading http://highrankings.com/forum/ it provides quite good info on SEO.
gghosting 11-28-2004, 12:13 PM Local is the best way to go. Try newspapers, community websites, sponsor business events, etc.

Those are people looking for quick marketting and quick results. SEO is far from a waste of money. Think about it long-term. Every little steps you take now seo-wise gonna help to assure the long-term visibility of your website.
You're NOT gonna get your ROI fast with SEO.
Im_Goodspeed 11-29-2004, 01:28 AM no no, if you do SEO yourself - it is a fair gamble. you also do not lose anything really. i meant the paid SEO.
utsn, would you pay someone to do SEO for your website?

SEO is a big jobs, not only META tags. If you have time, you better do it by your self. if you don't have much time find some freelancer is the best way
Twljagflba 12-02-2004, 06:49 AM I do other things than just META tags.. making sure links are properly defined and all of that along with robots.txt to make sure the spiders can index sites properly
lorandm 12-03-2004, 12:10 PM There's much more to SEO than meta tags or robots.txt.
I would give you the example of SeoGuy.com
Apart from all his pages having a more than decent PR, it also has the "right" content. Keyword density, link placement, the works. You should get some ideas from there...
