Aborior is pleased to announce the release of Encore Web Forum II, an elegant new message board product for online communities. Encore II is a culmination of months of work with actual forum users, emphasising customisation, ease of use and a fluent interface as essentials in such a piece of software.

The original Encore Web Forum was released back in August 2000. Flexibility and customisation were the prime factors in the design of the original system, and they have now been greatly enhanced under Encore Web Forum II. Where the original had eight templates controlling only the user area of the forum, Encore II has well over 250 templates controlling every aspect of the forum, including the user area and administration system. This is coupled with an easy to use theme system for simpler changes in colour and style.

Encore II is in fact an application built using Aborior's own Simplex Database software (http://www.aborior.com/simplex). This gives you access to the database behind your forum, and all the workings of queries, forms, reports, templates and access controls that combine to make up the system. Using the tools of Simplex Database, you are not only able to customise the appearance of your forum, but also its function and structure, ensuring that it works to your specific needs.

In every respect, Encore II has improved on its predecessor. On a technical level, the forum runs on any Unix or Windows server and is able to use an SQL database such as MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server. To ensure portability, smaller forums are also able to use a flat-file database. A page caching mechanism ensures scalability and a further performance enhancement. Being an application of Simplex Database, Encore runs on a series of Perl scripts that are regularly evolving with various new features and performance enhancements.

Some major features include:

User polls
Chat rooms
Private messaging
Mailing list
E-mail notification
IP banning
File uploads/attachments
Post summaries
Member directory
Full search features
Form e-mailer
Tell-a-friend
Bookmark pages
New post alerts
Session and cookie based logins
Moderators can edit/delete/move/lock/merge/split/condemn posts as they browse and post to the forum
Notes on posts and special reserved icons for moderators
Pre-moderation
Message reports
10 attractive themes included by default, with tools to make your own. Colour chart, colour previews and full page theme previews assist you in this.
Export options for including forum content elsewhere in your web page, including a forum portal panel.
Easy install program that can configure, upload and set permissions on files automatically for you, all from your own machine.
Responsive support through online community forum and e-mail.

Many other features are available also. See http://www.aborior.com/encore/features.shtml for a full list.

A free version, EncoreLite, is available for trial, evaluation and small-scale use. It is a trimmed down copy of the full version, but still has many exciting features such as the full theme system, search features and many others.

The full version of Encore Web Forum II requires the full version of Simplex Database in order to run properly. Simplex Database is priced at $120.00 US. Encore Web Forum II can then be purchased as an add-on for an additional $30.00 US. Purchasing Simplex in this fashion also gives you access to its other applications, distributed with it for free. These include a user poll, guestbook, news manager, mailing list, counter, random content manager and link manager.

For more information on Encore Web Forum II, including feature comparisons, screenshots and documentation, see http://www.aborior.com/encore. For a working demo, check out Aborior's community and support forum at http://forum.aborior.com. If you have any questions, feel free to ask away.

I must say, it looks pretty good. Now does it work as good as it looks? :) Nice forum software. Maybe I'll try it out someday soon. What kind of support do you give with this software? Upgrades etc.

In terms of support, this is available for both Simplex and Encore through our own community forum. We also offer e-mail support services, with a turn-around of within 24 hours, usually within 12. An FAQ is also available on our web site. All support services are free, and we've received only positive comments on them to date. Support page is at http://www.aborior.com/support.shtml if you wanted to have a look. Also, for those interested in heavily customising their forum with Simplex, we do have a learning centre where we release tutorials and similar sorts of articles on developing in Simplex, that is at http://community.aborior.com

We tend to release upgrades fairly often, fixing any bugs reported and implementing new suggestions by users. The upgrade process is usually painless, and automated like the initial install.
