Hello,
I am starting a couple of small sites and I was wondering what good advertising places there are. Banner exchanges etc. Basicly just want to try to get some traffic up.

Thanks so much and if you are in the US happy turkey day!

Yes banner exchange can be good if you are going to allow banner advertisements on your site/forum. You can also submit your site to many free and cheap online directories. And on some forums you can even win banner impressions for being an active participant.

You could try Google Adsense (or Adwords) or Overture if you're looking for targeted advertising.. I also find advertising on forums which relate to our sites helps a lot as well. What's your budget like?

hello willang, if you are a host site you can add your site to upcoming hosting directory free of cost.

some sites rent out advertising space on their sites for a fee - it's good if the site's are popular ;)

If you're lookin to purchase advertising I know that Overture is a great option (their ad's show up on Yahoo! search, CNN, and a buncha other places), you can take and bid on what place you'll show up (generally top 3-5 is the best place), I tend to not bid any higher than $0.30 to make money last :/

More information would be required for me to make a logical decision as to where you should put your money.

If the website is focused around a specific target audience. E.g design services, targeted traffic, hosting then i would suggest banner impressions on large communities (like this one) would be most effective.

A website that is unreleated and perhaps doesn't have a large vertical market would be better off being advertised in a search engine ppc program such as overture.
