View Full Version : Gearhost-good feeling
drfoto 02-05-2002, 09:51 PM Having used HostPro and now Interland by absorbtion and getting really bad service from Interland, I decided it was time to move my accounts to a new host. After much research I had settled on Gearhost, so I sent an e-mail and a a pre-sales question to their ticket system cause I am interested in their service. Having not recieved a reply I decided to call to get the answers I needed (it should be noted that they had already answered a pricing question on Friday and I replied to that e-mail with my new questions). I ended up talking to Ryan himself. I must say he took both the time to answer my questions and even chat a little bit. After talking to him I must say I am very confident in their company and their ability to service my accounts in a professional fashion. I will try them out by moving my company websites to their server first.
Equilibrium 02-05-2002, 10:03 PM WOW
Do you think he is a salesman, trying to sell a product to you?
If you contacted my hosting company via any means I would be nice to you too ! !
I hope you have better experiences with them because a phone call or a email response does not guarantee quality service.
Trust ME
Besides, I always say you get what you pay for! ! !
drfoto 02-05-2002, 10:23 PM I will use my own sites first so as not to compromise any of my clients. Have you talked to anyone at Gearhost? If not then how can you comment. Ryan explained their server configs and how many sites on each server. That satisfied me. My worst case is my own sites stop working and I don't think that will happen. I will post info on how the signup process works only if I run into any problems.
Janet 02-05-2002, 10:28 PM Ryan explained their server configs and how many sites on each server.
Can you fill me in on that information? I asked him that a couple days ago, but he never replied to me.
I took Mark Blair's advice and checked out GearHost (Mark, I'll give you the domain info so you can get your referral). I talked to someone today (assuming it was Ryan) and not only was he friendly and courteous, but you could tell he was sincere. People who are only "in it for the buck" are easily spotted.
I moved one of my resold accounts from Omnis.com (formerly known as Astro Hosting). The registration process was painless.
I know I'm saying a lot of things here, but my main point and reason for responding was to "testify" on behalf of Gear Host's professional demeanor during the call I made. He wasn't "being a salesperson" when I called.

I'm amazed, you should be too! !
All these newbies with 1,2,3 post giving gearhost praises I would not be surprise if it was the same person signing up for multiple account to say something good about their company. It Has Been Done
Hmmmmmmmmm
Just my opinion, which I’m entitled to as any other red blooded American or sane person for that matter. YES YOU HAVE SEEN THIS STAEMENT BEFORE!!!!
:)
drfoto 02-05-2002, 11:05 PM Gee I guess since I just started posting on this board, I must be very innocent and susceptible to a slick salesman. You ever hear of a loss leader. It is a very accepted marketing practice to bring in new customers. (Marketing 101) Thanks for helping move my post #'s up
Just an FYI:
Just in case someone's silly enough to believe the person that responded to my post. I just found out about this site/BBS today. I've been designing web sites and reselling hosting for a combined total of eight years.
Over the years, I've done business with several companies including, but not limited to: SoftCom, Ready Hosting, TopChoice, Interland, ValueWeb, Omnis, HostSave, Addr.com, WebAxxs.Net, CommuniTech and now GearHost (splitting most of my clients between CommuniTech and a "wild card" solution, which may very well become GearHost).
When I see unnecessary, slanderous statements and I have the ability (and evidence) to state a more accurate case, I'll do so.
As a new member, after reviewing several posts and talking with Mark Blair (we work together during the day), my initial thought is that this will prove to be a valuable resource. I'm always looking for reliable knowledge resources and will definitely spend more time here (reading mostly). I'm assuming that there are many others, just like myself, looking for good info and that understand the value of interacting with people with same like interests and goals. The last thing I need, while perusing the BBS for info, is to be sidetracked by a paranoid poster. I don't appreciate it. I'm sure someone else looking for info won't appreciate it either. It's confusing (and unnecessary).
Thankfully, I've learned early on to keep my salt handy . . . when dealing with some folks here. Such is life, I guess.
A hidden agenda?!? Get serious!
UmBillyCord 02-05-2002, 11:28 PM I really don't think anyone is saying newbies can't post or if they do, they work for the company. I think people who have been coming around here for years or months notice paterns.
1) New company to WHT
2) Many newbies praise service
3) Slowly fade.
4) New company to WHT ........
Maybe people also notice the fact that there is an unusal number of Gear host post and many from people with few post. Also, some might remember the fact that Ryan signed up a few usernames here and pretended to have a conversation with each of them untill Chicken crushed it. So maybe some are just skeptical. Who knows?
If you are happy about service - post away.
markblair 02-05-2002, 11:33 PM Hmmm, some may think that people at a company are signing up with WHT just to get praise and make themselves look good. I on the other hand have absolutely no connection to GearHost outside of the fact that I host a site with them. I plan on moving a second domain shortly as soon as they offer their Unix plans.
Just for the record, here's my story. I operate a company in Michigan, Specialized PC. GearHost is located in Colorado. Nowhere close. I signed up with GearHost after a failed attempt to use the services of Saturn Services (also known as Savant Networks). If you think I am someone that works for a company and only wants to improve that companies reputation, then shouldn't it be Saturn? Why? Maybe because they're located in Michigan as well.
In any case... I signed up with GearHost because of many reasons. I made sure to contact them several times before making the move. Not that Saturn was doing me any good. I figured at the worst, I had very little to lose except the hassle of finding a new host. I've called them several times and each time (even at 10:00pm once) the phone has been answered within two-three rings. I have sent in requests and tickets and each time, they have been answered in less than 24 hours. Usually more accurately less than 12 hours. In one (and only one) instance, it took them longer. I sent a request in on a Friday regarding password protecting directories. They responded within a matter of hours but needed more information. I supplied the information late Friday and expected that I would hear back by Monday. That didn't happen. On Sunday I received a response to my original issue from Markus. He apologized for not resolving the problem sooner and taking longer to respond. I was shocked. I actually found a host that supports their clients on the weekends. The best part is he responded while many in this country were busy watching the Super Bowl. I'm sure he had better things to do and again, I was more than happy waiting until Monday. I guess I'm just used to having to do that. Now I've only been with GearHost a few weeks and I definitely want to take more time to more accurately see if they are as good as they've been. So far, I have no doubt they will continue to be as good.
The reason I feel the need to post this? Simple. With over 150 posts on WHT, I am definitely not just signing up to praise my own company. I don't work for GearHost and have no other reason to praise them than the simple fact of them taking care of business from day one. If that makes them a host to watch out for that will have problems, then sign me up for life.
Good luck to all the others that signed up with them or plan to. You won't be disappointed. I know I'm not.
jpc: Thanks for the comments. I appreciate you using me as a referral. If I'm not mistaken, I think you have to specify that when signing up. Either way, I appreciate it.
Equilibrium 02-05-2002, 11:41 PM And I notice something else all of them have spoken to
Ryan on the telephone, really look at the other post
They either say he was so “Polite” or :I spoke to him in person”
Seems to me it’s a fraud
Chicken needs to investigate this matter because I think it’s arise again
"UmBillyCord"
I thought I was crazy for a second, but I also noticed the same pattern in other post concerning gear host
I think its very weird though
To think someone would stoop to that level ! ! !
:D :D :D :D
I know its RYAN behind this you fall in the same class as championhost
Thanks God for the old USA, Freedom of speech, Freedom of Opinion
Vestirse 02-05-2002, 11:47 PM I replied to another post of yours, Bahres, calling Ryan polite. I am not Ryan. In fact I am a 19 year old female presently at college. I only said he was polite because well... he has been... at least to me (I can't speak for anyone else.) I was a little alarmed when I read UmBillyCord's statement that Ryan has been using aliases and replying to them, but after reading three of your posts (all THREE concerning GearHost, but not all in one topic) I am starting to think this is breeding grounds for paranoia. I suggest you call GearHost yourself (as was suggested in another post) and see for yourself whether he is polite or not. The number is listed clear as day on the site, GearHost.com and it's toll-free. -Ves
Equilibrium 02-05-2002, 11:47 PM WOW markblair
How quick you found this post ! ! !
Either Ryan just call you or your Ryan with another username and more have been posted to that username making it seem more legit, anyone can do that, but that response was too fast for me.
We were not born yesterday!
Do a search for gear host what aren’t spectacular praises are complaints of no support
I SMELL A RATA
I HOPE CHICKEN CAN INVESTIAGE THIS
Equilibrium 02-05-2002, 11:51 PM "Vestirse"
Please give us a link of where I called Ryan polite because thats a LIE, the only time I ever contacted them I send 2 emails and got no response so I have the just right to post my experence !!
The other two post were what lead to this one, have a little common sence read them over and you will see.

I will not continue to respond to such childish posts. This is the only time you will here from me on this subject, bahres. I happen to frequent WHT quite a bit. More so when I'm either looking for a host or have just switched. Mainly to see what others have to say and also to browse other topics to see what's going on around here. I visited tonight and saw a post with a title of the host I just switched to. Of course I'm interested in it. I responded to it because you were trying to state "newbies" were in fact Ryan when you have no information basing that to be true. If you want to call me a liar, go for it. I have absolutely nothing to prove to you.
Each of your posts that I have read recently have had rude responses. You won't earn any respect from others if that is the way you handle things.
Vestirse 02-05-2002, 11:57 PM Misunderstanding here... I called Ryan polite. You did not. However, I was a bit offended when it seemed like you suggested I might be Ryan. Because I have witnessed his "polite"ness firsthand, I naturally believe them (that he is polite) and think maybe you've cooked yourself a secret conspiracy under this when I have no reason to believe there is one for the moment. However, as stated, I am a little alramed with what UmBillyCord said about Ryan having alias and conversations with himself (that sounds funny, LoL) -Ves
drfoto 02-05-2002, 11:58 PM I'm in CT and I've been in business for 28 years as a commercial photographer. I have no connections to Gearhost. It seems to me that you are quite paranoid about Gearhost. Once again have you ever talked to Ryan or the Tech support people at the company. How come you keep avoiding answering the question. Maybe your a ringer for a competing hosting service?:stickout
Equilibrium 02-06-2002, 12:05 AM drfoto - Cant you read I already answered that question twice I tried contacting them by email and got no response.
I leave it to the Moderators to give the last say!
Its not like he has never done it before! ! !
Vestirse , I'm sorry Its just that if a hosting company can stoop this low they should be revealed
Vestirse = :)
Moderators, Please investigate
Vestirse 02-06-2002, 12:08 AM Bahres, I too am sorry about the misunderstanding. And I think drfoto meant to actually give them a CALL not just email them. Let me reassure you that it's toll-free (in the USA) so you have no worry of charges. :) -Ves
drfoto 02-06-2002, 12:14 AM :) Thank you for interpretting my question to bahres. He obviously didn't understand when I asked if he talked to Gearhost
WildHunter 02-06-2002, 02:08 AM Ok, after hearing all the GOOD things about gearhost, i decided to join up. I emailed them with some "rubbish" and didn't get a reply for some time, i tried to look the info on there website but couldn't find it (as we know its not finished yet - broken links, etc)
After reading all the threads my curiosity was over the top and i thought of taking a plunge. Account setup was done instantly, every thing went very smooth -- I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THERE ICONTROL. Add domain function is a 'killer' (well for me it is!). I love it. :D
I had some trouble with dns and had to call them, mind you i am in Australia so the time diff is just mad. I called and it was 2 am there and i kid you not, some body answered within 4 rings. All the issues was sorted out instantly and every thing has been good ever since.
I think gearhost is very cool, I am still new to it but what i have seen as yet, is very impressive.
Although I've a feeling, my site is bit slow, may be its just me but it takes some time for a simple site to load (mind you i am on a 56k modem) but still there is nothing on the page (www.stinkyslick.com).
But any way, i have been very happy. I hope things go really well.
Keep up the good work!!!!!
Cheers ;)

Equilibrium 02-06-2002, 02:22 AM WildHunter
No question is ever "rubbish" any good host would answer you with a reply because its good customer service, don't believe me ask a good host
:)
So what that means is you better always ask question they don’t consider "rubbish", or you will never get a response, how do you do that I don’t know. That’s your problem now ! ! !
:D
I will never signup with a host who don’t reply even if you consider it "rubbish" the job of CUSTOMER SERVICE is to help you get "rubbish" into clarity.
That Sucks
WildHunter 02-06-2002, 02:32 AM Good to hear from you bahres, i was just thinking of taking my post out... and you posted.... I should have read the thread before i posted errr....
Mate, i have no interest in this debate. I mean you guys can carry on after all this is the place for it.
I joined up cause i wanted to try (and my current host is $#%$#%). I have been happy with Gearhost, though its only been a 4-5 days. And you might be right, but as far as i am concern Ryan can have 200 screen name i don't care as long as there service is good etc etc.
Time will tell mate - if they are not good i am sure there will be others.
But, i have to give it ya, you do seem to have all the time in world :D (*:D * - that's not suppose to be a bad thing. I wish i had some).
Keep up the good work...
Cheers

I wish you all the best! ! !
And your wrong this is the place to discuss web host issues so if I had 2 emails gone unanswered I will share it with my web host home.
Don’t tell me "this is the place for it"
I know you’re new but you will realize that’s what we do here share experiences and tell the truth and all I have said is truth!
:D
This ENDS here for me folks ! ! !
P . S – Your right I have a lot of time
Jeff Rambo 02-06-2002, 03:03 AM What I find weird is you're a "newbie" yourself, bahres, 60 posts in one month. But I've come to terms with realizing that when a new company enters into the market out of no where and starts to surge, the competition will become jealous quickly and look for ways to expose the company even when there are no flaws.
Anyhow- Search the forums for my name. While I may not have 800 posts, I'm surely no newbie and you'll notice I've been with several hosts and I'm currently with GearHost since December 8th. Not a day has gone by where I haven't been satisfied with the service. I, like many others here have suggested the services to many, both here on WHT and in other mediums. And also like others, I noted my initial reason for signing up was the professionalism and assurance I associated with Ryan after having a conversation with him on multiple occassions prior to signing up.
Find a hobby besides this one ...
