Hello, have anyone transfer domain ownership on goddady.com? The fee for doing so is $19 I believe. Well, can anyone tell me how this process work?

I have a domain www.elusive-mind.com, registered with godaddy.com, which I'm selling. Let say someone wants to buy it, do I have to get their personal info? I don't understand how it work. Can anyone clearly explain? Thanks.

Don't they describe the process on their website somewhere?

If you own the domain and your admin email is active it's gonna be cheaper to transfer registrars.

Yup. Transfer your domain to another registrar which easily allows you to change ownership of the domain for free. It is somehow "unreasonable" in my opinion only, to charge an extra fee for change of ownership when other registrars offer the service for free.

I suggest stargateinc.com. It is $8.00 per transfer of the domain and they will add 1 year of registration to your domain.
It usually takes 5 business days to transfer domains to them. Just make sure that you have access to the administrative contact email of your domain. You will be asked to confirm the transfer through an email to this address.

I believe there is a transfer out, or change of registrar fee on GoDaddy as well. I may be wrong here as I don't have any domains over there myself, but I've been told there is by incoming customers.

You have to make money somewhere. If you are selling domains at cost or near cost or even below cost, you have to charge fees for other things to make up for it or you will simply not survive as a business. Most businesses selling at cost or below cost use domains as a loss leader and try to get you to purchase other services - like hosting.

This board is full of people complaining about no service on sub-$10 domains; no one answering their emails for weeks, domains expiring because the registrar cannot be contacted, unable to make domain changes, or update nameservers, you name it.

It takes profit to stay in business, and we know that there are many business models out there that don't make a profit... The people who are not making a profit will either stop running their business when they get out of college, will simply fold (we've bought two failed domain businesses this year), or figure out how to charge their existing customer base for services in order to make a profit.

In fact, he uttered some very important words of wisdom. We all are so quick to want a bargain, so we run to GoDaddy and others, buy our $8.95 domain and don't even examine the downsides. Then, we get barraged by spam, have service issues, and become subject to charges to leave and are shocked.

One random thought...can you find anywhere on their site or on any other information on transferring a name out. They all tell you how to transfer from another registrar but never tell you how to transfer to another registrar or what the cost is.

I have transferred some domains from GoDaddy to StarGate; without any charges from GoDaddy. And no problems. ;)

I've had very good experiances with myOstrich....
my first domain was registered through them, and now my second one is in the process. All of my emails have been returned within an hour or less ('course, I haven't been sending emails at 11:30 at night... ;)). They offer check registration also, which is always nice... not that I dont trust them, just that if you can get away without using your credit card, its better not to, IMHO.
Go with them and pay the extra $6 or whatever... over a year, the cost spreads out, and its well worth it.
