View Full Version : Can I transfer away from XREG.co.uk?

Hi,

As many others, I have my domain name registered with xreg and after I suspected something was wrong (no responses) I found this forum.

My domain name expires in about 3 weeks and rather than pay xreg to renew it, I think it would be safer to transfer it to another registrar. But I've read threads from people who have had problems transferring from xreg! Are these problems guaranteed?!

Who's the best around as an alternative to xreg? I don't want anything fancy, just web and email forwarding.

I've read that my domain name can't be transfered if the renewal is less than 14 days away, so I don't have much time to waste!

I appreciate any advice.

Are we talking about a .uk or a .com?

I've heard the myth that (.com) domains can't be transferred if they're less than two weeks from their renewal date, but AFAIK a myth is all it is. I've managed to transfer domains as little as five days before their renewal date. You obviously have to be prepared to renew with the existing registrar if the transfer doesn't go through in time, but there is no reason why it shouldn't.

We had someone transfer from xreg last week (its enom really) and there were less than 2 weeks from the expiry date.

The reason people state 30 days is that some registrars do have a block at 30 days and its simpler just to state the worst case scenario.

You have to be careful when transferring TLD's, espcially as GordonH has mentioned, sometimes it is not possible to transfer domains in certain time windows (however, if you have a good enough relationship with your provider, these times can be reduced considerably)
