View Full Version : How do I promote webhosting plans?
Mysterio 02-05-2002, 12:16 AM as the subject says...
I'm pretty new in webhosting biz, and would like to know how the gurus here get their users. I'm sure there are lots of other sites besides WHT to promote. Pls share with this newbie. Thanks very much for any info.
jamenjaw 02-05-2002, 01:46 AM well there is tons of ways you can advertise you web hosting business. you can buy banner ad space from anyone you want.
you can buy advertising space in a e-mail news letter,
buy search word advertising on a search site.
there is a lot of options to do this i just hopes this helps you out a bit.
one more thing about the e-mail news letter advertising it can be a bit pricy but from what I have heard from others using it (as long as you get on the right list) it is very worth every penny.
James
just my two cents
Mysterio 02-05-2002, 03:22 AM I want to open a webhosting biz, so I guess the cheaper the better....free is of course the best option I'd like.
2Grumpy 02-05-2002, 03:59 AM Well it's a major catch-22, the best advertisement you get paid for! Happy customers. I had over 150 sales from a SINGLE message forum posting by one customer (yes he is hosted for free now). It's not the only example but it's the most extreme I've seen, actually it's probably more like 200 sales in the onslaught of new signups I lost count.
allmark 02-05-2002, 04:19 AM Dixiesys, May I ask you a question?
You are always talking about 200 sign up's last week and 10 sign ups a day and 50 last night....
Whats the secret ?
And I will understand if you don't want to share the info with everyone, so just PM me with the info :stickout
2Grumpy 02-05-2002, 04:42 AM I've never had 200 in a week :D
I've got like.. 400-430 customers (don't ask why this is a guess, I'm slowly getting it all into ModernBill). It's taken 3 and a half months to get that far.
Those 150-200 signups have been coming in for over 5 weeks now, the business from that bit of customer word of mouth is starting to slow down big time.
But in another move of near astronomically good luck, I got a nice text link placed on a LARGE percentage of the pages of a site that gets over 1.2 million uniques a month! www.rxlist.com if you're curious, I'm sure (I hope) you'll see my little text link. 3 sales 1st day, I haven't had a chance to check IP's against orders against http referrers to see if I've gotten any since.
So far I think I've just been extremely lucky, plus my pricing sells itself.

Omair Haroon 02-05-2002, 04:53 PM I am also curious to know about such forums.

yaple17j 02-05-2002, 05:06 PM Dixiesys what type of connection to the net do you have for that many users? I am trying to do some homework before I jump into hosting without knowing what to do. Also do you use any software like hosting controller? Thanks.
2Grumpy 02-05-2002, 05:22 PM I have 2 servers at Rackshack, 1 at EFreeServers and 1 at dv2.com.
Haha you wanna know what forum? Man I dunno about that :D
I was mentioned on the f-ckedcompany forums! Though I don't think I got more than a handful of sales from there :(

Hehe, well with 150 signups from a single forum, the question had to be asked :stickout
Mysterio 02-06-2002, 06:41 PM Come on guys...isn't there any other way to promote?
Dixiesys, what do you mean by "major catch-22"??
pls help...thanks a lot...
2Grumpy 02-06-2002, 11:23 PM catch-22
Like when you were 16 and wanted a car.
"get a job if you want to buy a car"
"get a car if you want go have a job" (how you gonna get there?)
Best advertisement: Customer word of mouth and customer referrals.
This ain't much help to a business with few or no cusotmers yet.
