I can see that your server is hosted in Virginia (cmiiw), so download speed may vary depending on how far physically you are from your server.

From my server at VDI (New Jersey): 95.76 KB/s

From my server at NAC (New Jersey): 58.76 KB/s

From my server at Aperian (Arizona): 62.50 KB/s

Hopefully others will get a better result, but those do seem pretty slow!

cheers,

PC Etailer, Inc. signes a 10-year lease for it's new data center in Manassas, VA. The new center has many great advantages for current and future growth, noted Michael Youssef, the company president. The location enjoys the direct access to the Fiber Optic lines for future line upgrades.

Hm ... probably they have capped bandwith? Ask them for their MRTG off their main switch, if they dare to show it to you :D

65 KB/s -ish, I stopped the download, but it seemed to ride about there.

Is it normal to get much faster speed via ftp download than download via http. I know apache handles the httpd and the ProFTPD handles the ftp stuff...

I get lots more kbs via ftp.

I dunno if it's because it's the middle of the night, but I get an average of 150 KB/s from here (Herndon, VA).

anyone has/have a fractional t1 at home or office. or anything other than a t1. What's the average cost per that. I know the closer you are the cheaper.

I have a guy/client that gets lots of hits and the hosting company interland times out here and there. We blame it on them because of email issues and also we run MIVA shopping cart. Lots and lots of traffic and wonder if it might be miva.. which it could.

I thought of leasing a T1 in the warehouse and host it ourselves. Or they can always pay 3 times the amount and get a dedicated server. They make enough money.. but not enough time to take off from other stuff in order to setup the 'ground-works'

T1 bandwith? Ah ... no wonder you get only around 100 kbps or so ... T1 is probably good enough for an office environment, but might not be adequate enough in a serious hosting environment

Started at about 120Kbps, and now sticks at 50.3Kbps.

(from Cable modem in Belgium, Europe)

I usually (= when downloading from e.g. CNET) get speeds from around 380-500Kbps, and when buffering Realaudio I get speeds up to 800Kbps.

Hope I helped you with this...

I don't think you can ask for your money back ... Does it say in the contract that at anytime you are not satisfied, you can claim your money back? At most you can do is to get rid off the contract.

Just an FYI on my test results I submitted..

The email above that stated we were testing there line from home is incorrect. I know alot of people on here have some fat pipes and they are the ones that responded. My test was from the IBM facility in Boulder, CO. The same plant which houses their webhosting farm. We have more fiber in this place than I dare to talk about. From my terminal, I can download stuff from Microsoft and some sites at Download.com at around 500k to 600k/s easy.

I would tell the company you're with that your outta there, not for just being on a T1 (cause those are not that bad) but because they are trying to be something they are not and are not being honest.

laterz..

IBM Should show off their farm/facility. Post picture on the site or something :) But than again they are not ibm->retail but maybe more ibm->retail>or>big corps.

I averaged around 110KB/sec. Cogeco Cable Solutions. Ontario, Canada. Pretty slow compared to the 250-400KB/sec I usually see around the web.

Hello,

Yup get 110k/s from UK.. My home :-) connection is a 10meg limited port swtiched onto gigabit then onto 155mps about(10% utilisation) micorwvae link then onto 2.66gig fiber network then under the atlantic we have either 9x 155mbps Teleglobe lines or 2x 2.66 gig lines or all 11.. depends I think they are testing at the moment..(utilisation is low). My usual DL is about 750 to 1.1meg. From my servers in Docklands London I can get the full 10mbps port speed.

Have fun people :-)
