Hi there,
This sounds interesting, virtual dedicated servers........but has anybody ever tried this product?
Surely there must be some problems running mulitple "virtual dedicated" servers on one box?

Ive heard nothing but good about sphera but have never used it myself.
There are actually not any problems with it, they have done a great job at programming there at sphera.com. The cost may be the only real factor but you have to realize these are not just sites your creating they areservers. So the $400 for up to 200 VDS's really isnt bad at all. Thats only $2 per virtual server. Im sure you can sale Virtual servers for quite a bit more than $2 each. But back to the question....yes we have used it and yes it is rock solid from what we experienced but it just wasnt something we wanted to get into just yet, perhaps in a few months.

I have actually worked with a company that is in the process of setting up a Sphera cluster. Sphera is fairly nice, the only nag I have about it is that it currently will only run on Red Hat (I would prefer for it to run on a more secure out of the box linux distribution like Debian). I installed it on a server with a basic Redhat Install in a very short amount of time. It's a nice hosting automation system, just it costs more than some of the others out on the market. I would give Plesk a shot if you want a general control panel (they are currently in the process of building a multiple dedicated server administrator, so they should be releasing somethign similar to Sphera's cluster support shortly).

If you like the concept, http://www.freevsd.com may suffice - and it is free.

Something interesting to note is that Sphera plans on releasing a NT control panel sometime in 2001 (supposedly it is currently under development according to their development team).
