These aren't full Xeon 3.06Ghz dedicated servers for $70/month, are they? The pricing is way too low... Also, there's no such thing as a 25GB or 50GB HD, is there?

- Matt

yes they are

Things still seem a little fishy... what's the network, where are the servers located. Any test IPs?

mmmm, theres no such hard drives.

In IDE, they make 20,40,60,80,120,160,200,250,300,400.

In SATA, they make basically the same thing, except there's a 36 GB and a 74 GB

In SCSI, they make them in 36GB , 73GB and 147GB

We have two locations Chicago, IL and Dallas, TX. The servers are comprised of dual xeon 3.06ghz with (1) SATA 100GB HDD. We use ESX server to divide the machines into 2 seperate machines that meet the packages the customer purchases

208.53.158.42 = dedicated
208.53.171.132 = sharesd
208.53.175.162 = shared
December 7th Dallas ips will go public

if you willing to talk in real time you are welcome to connect to irc.systeminplace.net #Support

Can a customer get the whole server for twice the price?

Aaron

We bought the servers in bulk due to a company going bankrupt we recieved them at a great price.

MOST Servers are Dual 3.06GHZ Xeons with 2GB RAM and (1) SATA 120GB hard drive.

Motherboard is a Tyan Tiger i7320 (S5350)(S5350G2NR)

We split the server into 2 servers using ESX and sell them by partitioning the drive or adding in more drives to suite the users package.

As for bandwidth we get our lines at a discount rate for multiple lines and for renting multiple racks,

Our Dallas center is scheduled to be up on Dec 7, 2004

Aaron, we currently do not sell the servers as a whole for the dual systems however we will be offering QUAD PIII systems at the beginning of next year.

This is really weird ... and how would a 120 gb SATA hd = 50 gb?

ReaCT
11-18-2004, 12:02 AM
its a 120GB drive but ESX only makes the space we specify available to the users, so we could make it look like a 1GB, 40GB, or 120GB drive if we wanted to basically we can set it to use between 1-120GB .

It splits the servers into 2 or 4 depending on our Dual Xeons or Quad systems, we run a Max of 1 server per CPU on our machines and all NIC, HARDDRIVE and RAM are dedicated.

The Broadband Man

okay - recap for me. I want a good server with Direct admin

who is your network provider or providers and where is your DC

ReaCT
11-18-2004, 01:49 AM
I rent my rackspace from FDCservers in chicago, and my lines in chicago from level3 and soon to get lines from cogent.

As for the bedford/dallas location I will be renting the rackspace from CIHost and the lines to be decided. Possibly Williams to offset the current level3 and cogent lines we plan.

If everything continues to go well we will be getting a location in Los Angeles, CA.

We allow IRC on our shared lines only in Chicago, athough if the contract works out alright in Los Angeles we will plan to allow IRC.
We do not permit any IRC on our dedicated bandwidth lines.

Any other questions feel free to send us an email at sales@systeminplace.net

The Broadband Man

You get L3 from FDC as well? ... do you have any completely dedicated servers?

ReaCT
11-18-2004, 02:03 AM
fdc now has level3.net as a main backbone, since I host gameservers level3 is much better at gameservers then cogent so we switched over.

ReaCT
11-18-2004, 02:04 AM
all my dedicated servers that I rent out are owned by my company and most are 2U dual xeons with tyan motherboads.

11-18-2004, 02:19 AM
so BW is unmetered on 100mbit port, right? how much cpu can we use?

thanks

The Broadband Man
11-18-2004, 02:24 AM
umm ... what gameserver company do you run and also - do you have any boxes that are not split?

ReaCT
11-18-2004, 02:41 AM
www.systeminplace.net is our url, We will not have any non split servers until the start of the new year. The servers we bought in bulk all have pre existing expensive esx server licenses and due to the overhead cost we bought the licenses with the servers so we are using them to split our current supply.

The Broadband Man
11-18-2004, 02:43 AM
O I see...I guess how much is your xeon 3.0 with 1 gig of ram

ReaCT

explain ded verus shared...anyway do you have direct damin

ReaCT
11-18-2004, 01:08 PM
Dedicated bandwidth is bandwidth that is specific to your server and is a direct line from my uplink.

For example a 10Mbit NON-SHARED line is a dedicated line meaning you have a 10Mbit pipe that no one else has access to use. And means you would always have access to 10Mbit bandwidth. This is the option for people who need a constant flow of data and does not cause any type or latency or lag spikes because of other customers.

Shared bandwidth is where your server is put on a 100Mbit line with several other servers, it is fully burstable to 100Mbit but you are limited to what others are not using.

Example: If there are 40 servers on a 100Mbit line and each are currently using 2 Mbit at the same exact time then there is 20Mbit left at that time to be used, but if only 1 of those 40 servers is pulling any traffic then 98Mbit is available.

Dedicated bandwidth is more costly because it is a direct line that is pure and unshared, while a shared line we can theoretically add as many servers onto it until we cover the expense of the line.

Our chicago shared line currently has 25 people on it.

And to answer your direct admin question:
The other reason we use ESX is that we can remotely login and install any OS or software from afar.
ESX makes the system fully splitable each of the 2 servers on the dual system has its own boot menu, bios, etc. ESX gives me remote hand and eyes to shutdown, reboot, add ram, add hard drive space and see the computer in live time using hands and eyes.

The Broadband Man
11-18-2004, 04:31 PM
So I CAN or CAN't have direct admin/

ReaCT
11-18-2004, 05:19 PM
If you have a windows box you get direct admin via realvnc, if you choose *nix you get ssh and root access. you get full root access to all the dedicated systems.

The Broadband Man
11-18-2004, 05:22 PM
I think you're mistaking what I'm asking. I'm asking about Direct Admin control panel for webhsting

ReaCT
11-18-2004, 05:34 PM
is Direct Admin a program like cpanel or what do you mean exactly

The Broadband Man
11-18-2004, 05:50 PM
yeah its liek cpanel...you sure you guys are experienced in hosting?

ReaCT
11-18-2004, 05:55 PM
We do not offer cpanel or plesk or direct admin. If you have your own license you are welcome to use it.

I find it extremely hard to believe that you can offer dual xeons with ESX server loaded in it for $70 per processor. First off what kind of servers are you using? If you used a reputable server (Like you should, since VMware ESX is only supported on HP, Dell, Compaq IBM etc.) You are looking at at least 4-5k....then add in a ESX License....$3000....thats if you get a great deal.....So you are talking a 7 to 8k investment just to get $150 or so/mo.? You are either actually putting more servers an a single processor than you are letting on, or you are buying Ultra cheap servers and pirating ESX.

ReaCT
01-06-2005, 02:52 PM
The xeon machines we sell with esx/gsx were bought from a company that went bankrupt at a bulk rate for all of them so we got them at over 1/2 the retail cost that you would purchase new.

If you dont believe us or like our packages then dont purchase them, we dont only offer esx/gsx solutions we also offer true dual cpu systems as well as singles which will be up at the end of January which you can see them at www.systeminplace.net/dedicated.php

ReaCT
01-06-2005, 03:00 PM
And also the machines that are dual xeons the first virtual machine is rented to a high paying private hosting customer so the second is left to be rented at our choice. So we arnt necessarily only making 150$/month of the machine. We are simply renting out the second cpu to fillin the bandwidth cost gap.

And we are slowly phasing out the use of ESX to use GSX because of the issues with scsi and the drive size to cost ratio, we have started using GSX and SATA drives in our dallas location. Which are a much cheaper alternative then the expensive scsi drives and if needed raptor sata drives can be used when called for.
