My server recently went bonkers as suddenly ALL CGI and database does not work, keep giving me a 500 Internal Server Error and also File not found. A simple check with FTP and telnet, all scripts are inplace and permissions are correct.

Problem is all this script were working for like over 1 month and overnight this just happens.

So I issued a ticket to Rackshack. Waited 16hrs to get a reply (with another email to HeadSurfer). They solve the problem, but only on 1 site, not knowing the server is hosting like over 6 sites.
Nvm, cause I only gave them examples of 1 site.

Issued another ticket on other sites. another 16hr wait (without email to Headsurfer and VP of Support). Solve the balance of the problem. However, again, they only solve the problem on sites which I showed examples. 1 more site which utilizes only 1 CGI script was left out from my set of examples.

From this experience, I would say Rackshack does have support and they're ok...turnaround time is around 16hrs (I'm in Malaysia...so that might be the reason for long turnaround time).

For future Rackshack problems, I think it would be best to issue them a complete detail list of sites with problems rather than the general outlook. Support does fix my problem, but I did specify I want to know the reason behind it so I could fix it the next time without waiting for so long. All queries regarding this weren't answered.

So I would like to ask if any of you experienced these problems before (CGI suddenly just died) on your server, do let me know how could I, as a customer solve it on my side before escalating it to their support. Thanks.

I've always lived under the assumption that your server is yours to run... its one thing if some core linux files are messed up or the hardware fails (since you cant fix that) its generally yours to fix. The fact that they helped you at all is amazing to me, espcially for free.

Yes - they don't offer managed hosting so even if MySQL, Perl, Apache etc. is gone from the server it's your problem and not theirs. Just be happy that they helped you for free :)
