View Full Version : Any comments/thoughts/reviews on RackSpace?
beyondallcom 02-03-2002, 10:59 PM Hello Everyone,
Does anyone have anyone have any thoughts/comments/experiences with Rackspace? I'm trying to decide between them and DataPeer.
Thanks,
Kevin
RackSpace is probably the best dedicated server provider in the world :) I love them, I have used them before, and will start using them in the next month or two. They are awesome with support, service, uptime, and everything else.

Host Visions 02-03-2002, 11:46 PM Haven't been with them long, but so far I'm impressed. The folks in support really know what they are doing!
GeorgeC 02-04-2002, 12:49 AM As proffesional as they come in all areas- support, uptime, connectivity etc. If you like their prices the rest is history.
I know some people who host their sites on Rackspace and never heard any complain. Rackspace is excellent in term of uptime, support, connectivity, and reliability. If only they could offer a lower pricing, I'd host my site with them too. Simply said, you should not go wrong with Rackspace! :)
I'm not familiar with Datapeer so can't comment on it. Another serious Rackspace competitor would be DialtoneInternet, I think. You should check them out too.
optix 02-04-2002, 02:20 PM rackshack prices are not good? who are you hosting your server with then that is cheaper?
Incognito 02-04-2002, 02:21 PM A Big Difference a few letters make
optix 02-04-2002, 06:02 PM I'm not sure what you mean by "a few letters". I don't know anyone that is cheaper than rackshack.net
mdrussell 02-04-2002, 06:05 PM He means that RackSpace and RackShack are different companies!
ie. http://www.rackspace.com
http://www.rackshack.net
optix 02-04-2002, 06:07 PM whoops  I thought you meant rackshack.
maxbear 02-05-2002, 11:48 PM I have both server on Rackspace and Rackshack. Both companies are good. I have been doing business with Rackspace for more than 4 years. Yes, their services and uptime is really really good.
Actually, both companies have 24 hours tech available. So if there is anything wrong with your server, someone must be there to reboot. This is very very important.
Rackshack only hosts with Linux server and you must have some server admin knowledge to handle the server. And of course, the price is much lower with more transfer.
Rackspace can let you configure the server that you want. Windows based server is also available. There are support teach to help you to solve the server problem.
This is just my comments and experiences from both companies. Both of them are good, uptime, speed, 24 hours tech....etc. It depends on what OS you want and what's your serer admin experiences.
RackMy.com 02-06-2002, 12:14 AM I don't think you will go wrong @ Rackspace.com. I hear nothing but "glowing" things about them!
markt 02-06-2002, 10:26 AM We've been using Rackspace for a couple of years now, and they've been great. The uptime has been excellent (except when we've screwed things up, but you can't blame them for that), and the support is really impressive.
Good luck!
ho247 02-06-2002, 11:27 AM I can agree with all the comments on Rackspace too, the service and support is great, all at a price though . I've been with them for 6 month's so I have seen enough to say that they are a top host.

beyondallcom 02-06-2002, 05:33 PM Thanks for the comments, I guess i'll go with RackSpace then, they seem to me top notch, anyone knows how long it takes to bring the server online? Also hows their security(anyone hacked into your sever)?
Thanks,
Kevin
ckpeter 02-06-2002, 07:03 PM You should probably ask them for the setup time. As for the question of hacking, unless you are getting a managed server, this is completely your responsibility to secure your server.

Lonny 02-09-2002, 11:51 AM I've never heard anything bad about them... are they the ultimate hosting company? :)
cperciva 02-09-2002, 12:00 PM No, the ultimate hosting company would be rackspace at rackshack's prices. ;)
More seriously, rackspace's server pricing has come down to reasonable levels, but I think that they could do with dropping their bandwidth rates somewhat... $2.70/GB is a bit on the high side now, even given the high quality of their network.
