From a start-up prospective, once you had the technology in place what kind of customer growth (numbers per month) did you experience in the first 6 months to a year?

Depends on a number of things such as pricing, advertising, etc. It's different for everyone. ;)

I understand that this may be different for everyone, dependant on many things, I'm just asking for peoples experiences, what did you start with? what customer base was built in what time.

I'm not asking for a "how to" of starting a company, I'm just looking for numbers to give an approximate in my business plan.

Thanks for the heads up mesopia(Jay), I should have said this to begin with really.

Within the first 6 months you should be able to achieve 40-50 customers per month with little effort.

Thats not typical though as Ive seen persons on WHT complain about being in business for 4 months without getting even one customer.

IMO your success depends on way too many factors for us to give you a good estimate of what to expect.

That's nothing if you, say, take out huge advertisements in every large computer magazine in the US and give out 3 year trials. If you rely on word-of-mouth and local connections, your marketing costs will be minimal, but you might not attain this figure. Seriously, there's no "general" figure - it all depends on the specifics of your situation.

What kind of technology? No one in this forum has the cutting edge technology which only them had (unless a very very VERY minority of the member which happens to own a decent sized company).

Whether or not you can actually determine the number of customers you acquire is a whole separate issue from actually going out there, doing the necessary work and meeting your own company's goals of how many customers you want to acquire within that time period.

But as echoed above -- even that can't be determined. The only thing you can do is go out there and get customers -- it's rather straightforward.
