Okay,
I have the cobalt pkg for php 4.03pl on my system along with Mysql.
In order to apply their patch, I have to
uninstall PHP, Install their massive patch and then reinstall PHP?
Are the security patches in this release really worth all this hassel.
I am just anxious about updating as I cannot risk possible downtime for the virtual hosts on the box. Many of the sites use Mysql and PHP.

If you don't install this patch, you won't be able to install any subsequent patches if the later patches have a dependency on this patch.
Judgung by all the things this patch appears to be breaking, I suspect that there will be some dependencies on it in the future.
Here are a few things this "Update", Downgrades:
Analog 4.16 -- nearly a year old current is 5.x
PHP 4.0.3 -- Current is 4.1.1 many already have 4.0.6
QPopper 3.0.2 -- Current is 4.0 4.0 adds SSL/TLS
Samba 2.0.9 -- Current is 2.2.x -- 2.0.x had some security problems
Cobalt patches make me :puke:

What bothers me is why they would revert back to older versions during a upgrade, I think it is rediculous.
I like the Raq platform, but your right Haze, they make me
sick as well :puke:

Quite bluntly, it is (are?) things like this that have pushed me away from Cobalt towards FreeBSD.
While that may not be the appropriate thing to say in the Cobalt section of this august forum, my fingers did the talking...

Well so far I am 2 servers down and 2 more to go on the updates... so far so good.
I dont get why its a big deal to re-install the php that takes a whole 2 seconds....
Anyways so far the install is going well for me.
my .02 cents

Well quite frankly, its not the fact that we have to re-install php that bothers me. Its the fact that Cobalt would release a PKG that has so many outdated files. Not just the PHP release. I don't mind uninstalling php and upgrading again as well as the other programs, but with so many things to re-do with this package, its a pain in the buttox, and might cause a little more than necissary downtime for my clients.

Okay,So there are some poeple getting the patch installed and also getting their raq in a working order afterwards.
From those of you who have installed the patch successfully.
Did you uninstall PHP first?
