Hello,

I posted here before a while ago and got some good response, but I was relocating shortly after and things were going well job-wise. They still are, but I'm looking for something a little more in some regard and a little less in others (which I'll explain if someone is interested in contacting me).

I am seeking long or short term employment, either part time or full time. I have many years experience doing server administration, technical/user support, programming, installations, configurations and more.

I am familiar with Linux, *BSD, and other Unix variants.

I am very familiar with the Apache web server and have some Stronghold and Zeus experience as well.

I have experience and knowledge of installing, configuring and using many forms of software, components and modules.

I am also familiar with, have knowledge of, know how to configure and use all of the following (there's more, but this list will give you an idea):

ProFTP, WU-FTP, NcFTPD, SecureFTP, SSH, SSL, telnet, DNS/BIND, MySQL, IPChains, firewalls, TCP Wrappers, SMTP, POP, Qmail, Sendmail, CGI, PHP, HTML, ASP, PPP, TCP/IP, various security issues, control panels, etc. I have built and configured complete production web servers, name servers, mail servers and more. I have also programmed many complex interfaces.

I have a lot of experience using vi, grep, pico, ee, sed, awk, Perl, bash and various shells, crontab, and all the other *nix basics, intermediate and advanced programs and tools, of course.

I have experience on shared and dedicated servers, securing them, configuring them for performance and software additions. I am familiar with and have installed many Perl modules and 3rd party software and scripts.

I have much experience trouble shooting server and user problems, abuse issues and user's scripts and programs.

I know how to program/code in Perl, PHP, C & C++, and have limited knowledge of Python and Tcl, and various other scripting and compiled languages.

I have experience with assistance via email, messenger and phone, as well as ticket systems.

I am quite familiar with many security issues and how to prevent many local and remote compromises/exploits, system monitoring, security policies and rules and much more in that regard.

I have some general to decent experience with sales as well, as this is a fairly simple task and I usually end up playing the biggest role in administration, setting up user accounts, configuring the system and services, etc. However, I do have good people skills and have done sales with a successful sign-up percentage.

Added my ability to offer realistic support in addition, trouble shoot problems, advice and assist the user after sign-up, I have proven I can provide a service that results in a very high account retention percentage.

I am an adult, and am in my 20's and I live in California. My hours are very flexible and I am basically an all around knowledgeable person with any server administration, support and programming type of task(s).

I am very interested in hearing any serious offers from any hosting company that might be interested in one or more of my qualifications, experience and abilities.

Thank you for your time and interest, I can provide more details upon response to any serious replies I get. Please feel free to email me at: webanatomy@yahoo.com if you are interested.

Hi,

I've gotten a lot of emails asking about partnerships and projects, contracts, etc. Sorry I didn't mention this in my other post. Yes, I might be interested in such an arrangement, if it sounds right. I'd like to earn money and the circumstances will dictate if I'd be interested. I.e., I don't desire to try a start up with nothing to start with, and the other party would have to contribute more than a small amount of funds for the start up and have myself end up doing all of the work on the servers and be the only real support entity, etc. and I'm not interested in offering any free work or whatever. Furthermore, to those that are inqiuring about Windows based servers, please, I have absolutely no interest in them and if you require that, or some silly MSCE, I'm not the right person for you. I'm sure that you get the point and understand :). (This will save people time from asking in emails). Thanks.

Hi,

I apologize for updating my thread yet again, but some recent posts got me thinking, as well as some emails with some offers. It looks like I should have mentioned, that I only desire to work for a company that is owned by an individual that is at least 18 years old to make a work contract or employment legally binding, of course. It appears some people don't consider this an issue, but I do.

Finally, I would prefer to work for a company/web host that is based in the USA (their servers and the company owner) and although its not a requirement by me, I'd prefer it (although I am open to people located in Canada, the UK and Australia, etc.) Also, relocation would be considered, assuming the offer is ripe, but I would much rather tele-commute, as it is timely and expensive to relocate -- although I am considering some offers. Again, thank you for your time to view the thread and sorry if I am sounding too picky, I'm just trying to save myself any any people offering work from wasting time. Thanks.

Hello,

I am still available, yes. I guess the economy really is that bad and no one seems to be hiring for a steady position, or people are already set with employees. Yes, I have not had a solid offer for the type of employment I am seeking, and although I've had good and interesting offers, they are not immediate steady work. I am still open to offers for contract work or whatnot that will turn into steady work, but I still prefer to have a steady job and until I secure that, I will be available. I will be taking a vacation for the next two or three days, so anyone that's interested, please send your open position details and I'll get back to you by the time Im back, if not before. Thank you.

Hi, I'm back. I almost missed some PM's too. The offers sound interesting, but I am still looking for some steady work to start, if possible. Isn't anyone looking for someone to work 20 to 40 or more hours per week? Is $15/hr. too much these days? I thought that was pretty cheap, but nonetheless it seems that not many people are hiring. Thanks again for the interest, I am still available.

I've been looking all over the Internet, in news groups (impossible to find anything there), web forums (last resort) and job sites, and it's always been really sketchy. If there's any ads, I'm qualified for, they always seem to require an MSCE or some pointless thing such as that, that has nothing to do with the job position -- which is because a lot of these company's use all the buzz words they think they need. I honestly can't find any jobs that involve web hosting, unless I relocate (I'd much rather telecommute, as it's expensive to relocate in hopes it's the right job) or waste time paying for a certificate to show them that I know how to use Email and my mouse and simple programs. It's ridiculous. If you know of any good temp agency or site, I would greatly appreciate any insight on it. There's got to be somewhere out there that doesn't want to charge you for a membership to just get a job. Any idea of any "temp staffing agency" sites? There's nothing local here. This is all very frustrating. When I have a job, everyone wants to hire me and when I'm looking, no one is hiring. I'm currently employed full time, but I want to work for another company (I won't get into the reasons why and the current employer isn't so bad, but I really need more breaks and am not wanting to work non-stop 14+ hours of every day of the week). Thanks.

Well I'm not sure of any temp agencies online. But with the rate of IT personel getting laid off... It will be extremely hard. Companies want certification because that shows that you know the stuff. By stating you can do this and that, companies really want proof. Well frankly if you will be still available in about 3 months I might have the funds to hire you :) Feel free to post again if you are still looking for a job in the next quarter and goodluck with your searches.

You might want to take a look at www.elance.com and post yourself up at www.guru.com .

Hi,

Well, I've checked around and at those sites too. I don't like Elance and some other's that you have to pay to be a member to get a job, but it's an idea if I can find a site that doesn't require me to pay to even see. :-)

Thanks for the offer for a potential offer. Sure, if I'm looking then, I'll let you know -- or conversely, you can let me know and I'll get back to yo if I'm available or not. If we're both looking at that time, I'll be happy to discuss the terms with you and provide you with any information that you will surely require at that time. Thanks for the suggestions too!

PS: I actually saw a job ad that specifically said "MSCE need not apply!". I almost questioned if I was dreaming. Heh.
