View Full Version : MattF Selling WHT?!?
HostInspect 02-03-2002, 03:10 AM Well....
How much you think WHT should be worth to sell it to someone?
I say about 4 grand or maybe 10.
How about you?
pcsteve 02-03-2002, 03:16 AM I would put it much higher. Consider that the hosting industry keeps growing and thus a need for a website such as WHT. The advertising potential is great.
I would say at min. you are looking at five digits for sure.
Get-Hosted.com 02-03-2002, 03:59 AM He is asking for at least $30,000, but I highly doubt it will go for that.
If it does go for that, then it won't be a very good site anymore either. If someone is willing to put up $30k for a website, then they plan on making their money back + some. That means the website will be turned into your regular web hosting directory stuffed with ads etc. One of teh great things about it is it's not here to make a lot of money. Once someone converts it, I highly doubt it will still be worth as much as it was before.
Basically, you don't spend that much money without the intention of making it back as fast as possible. It will basically turn into a business, and not a simple web hosting forum like it is now.
I HOPE noone is willing to spend that much, because it will most likely ruin the website to most of us regulars.
bitserve 02-03-2002, 04:40 AM I suspect that if it does change a lot, that people will stop coming here.
And if that happens, I see someone (a moderator or addicted forum member) simply spinning off another forum set up the same way.
But neither one will ever be the same as the old one.
I'm only guessing, but that's how these things seem to go.
DougBTX 02-03-2002, 06:54 AM I'm quite surprised that it took so long for someone to comment on the sale
Havn't even seen another mention of it.. (we're not in denial are we ;) )

tazd9t9 02-03-2002, 07:40 PM I think that when it really comes down to it, its a web bulletin board not a million dollar making site, if it is sold for loads then it will become an ad fest which i would find quite irritating, a few ads are ok but not millions
what I dont get is that Matt said WHT put a dent in his pocket, and that he needed to get some money back. But, since the beginning, he has been hosted for free, he never advertised, so where did all the money go? I mean, thats one thing I dont get. Maybe Matt or someone can explain.

Rewdog 02-03-2002, 11:57 PM Just some guesses,
I think he bought his own server. He hasn't always been hosted for free. This has been a lot of his free time and might have taken away from other money making oportunities.
And also remember he's lost much interest in running this forum, its not just about the money.

As was said above, it hasn't been sponsored from the beginning.
method5 02-04-2002, 09:38 PM but shouldn't he of made the money back from advertising? It has been hosted free for a long time now. Doesn't he charge 450$ for advertising and considering at least 2 advertisments are there a month; he would of made his money back like 10 times by now.
Chicken 02-04-2002, 10:36 PM I think this is branching into the personal debt of an individual rather than the overall point (site for sale), which I don't know anything about.

I think when Matt says personal debt, it implies as a whole, not just money incurred while running this site. Besides, how do you know he charges $450 for advertising? It could be a lot less.

Email and ask. heh.
