Hey all :)

I'm just wondering, what you think, makes a good porfolio site? (other than a good porfolio :p )

I have been doing freelance web design for a while now and have mainly been just making quick templates to earn a quick $$ but now i wan't to start designing properly and the first thing i want to do is sort out my own site.

On my site, www.21exits.com i orginally had my porfolio, some free web templates for download, tutorials, forums, wallpapers and loads of other junk and have even started to convert it to a full CMS but now im starting to think that this is way too much, also i have always used a dark/techy sort of style on my site which i know is bound to be a bad idea. . . .

So what features should be on a good porfolio site? should contain JUST examples of your work?

Thxz all :)

BTW is spelt 'porfolio' or 'portfolio' ? cause everywhere i go has a differant spelling :p

It's portfolio.

And the only thing that matters is the content. Don't add tutorials etc. to a portfolio.

The design really doesn't matter, but keep it simple. Sometimes very simple is the best -- make your work stand out. Take a look at http://nopattern.com/main.html for a good example

A clean professional layout with many of your previous works available for display. Easy navigation, a good seperation between your Web Developments and your graphics.

Yes, you want people to see your work, and not distract them with other things.

yes.

Also, be sure your site is simple, clean and easy to navigate. You can make your own site a-la 2advanced.com but you must have really nice works in your portfolio so. Many freelance designers have personal sites which is much better than sites they made for the clients. :p That's wrong way I think.
