I have no clue what's going on.

This is the email I sent to my registrar. Other than "have you registered your nameservers" they haven't offered any solution yet.

I've replaced:
-my domain with domain.com
-my server ip with 209.1.1.1
-my ns1 ip with 209.1.1.1
-my ns2 ip with 209.1.1.2

I tried first adding a zone record for ns1 & ns2 , then switching the nameservers, but that didn't work. After adding the zone record, I went to another host and did nslookup setting the server to ns1.domain.com and that worked. server=209.1.1.1 also worked.

A whois on the domain shows my registrar's nameservers. Dig & traceroute on the outside server also reflects registrar's nameservers' info.

I hope this is enough info... any help ?

Thanks

When changing your domain to use a new nameserver. Your registrar check with NSI if that nameserver you submit is valid , you can also check out here http://www.internic.net/cgi/whois select nameserver. If your nameserver did not appear there, that's the reason why they said "invalid nameserver" . Registrars are responsible for register nameserver of their client's domains with NSI. If your registrar did not offer this option , just transfer your domain to other registrar who offer nameserver registration like opensrs.

What is your domain name and what nameserver are you trying to register.

This is certainly not private information that you need to protect, and we can probably provide you with some real help if you don't obscure your problem behind fake domain names and nameserver names...
