I have been trying to figure out which is the safer remote to use Windows RDP or PCANywhere with encryption, anyone familiar?

I don't know anything about PCanywere so I can't comment on this comparison but personally I would recommend wrapping RDP in some sort of VPN tunnel (SSH tunnel for a cheap solution).
