View Full Version : Modernbill and 2Checkout - Is it seamless?
Bradstar 11-11-2004, 07:27 PM Does 2Checkout seamlessly integrate into modernbill?
--Do my customers get transferred to the 2CO site at any time, or do they stay on my site at all times, viewing my site?
mattwade 11-11-2004, 10:17 PM your customers will go to the 2co site. Same w/ paypal or any other 3rd party processor. The only way to have your people stay on your site is to have a merchant account. (as far as I am aware anyways).
ClubHouse Hosting 11-11-2004, 10:18 PM With 2CO being a 3rd pary proccessor, no matter what billing software you use customers will always complete their transactions on 2CO's servers.
If you want a completly seamless integration, you will need a real merchant account and gateway.
Harmolodic 11-12-2004, 09:20 PM Having to redirect your customers to a 3rd pary processor's payment page is not such a big issue actually. The biggest problem about 2checkout.com/ModernBill integration has always been the inability to offer recurring billing. Customers would need to pay each monthly invoice manually. Currently there's only an unofficial module for 2checkout recurring billing available.
geckofrog 11-13-2004, 12:01 PM Actually 38% of people that are checking out will drop their basket if forwarded to 2checkout.com.
Harmolodic 11-13-2004, 01:43 PM geckofrog,
Is this statistics (38%) based on your own experience? It is hard to believe someone could be losing such a huge percentage of sales just because of 2checkout's payment page.
We process over 50 "sign-up" transactions for web hosting packages through 2checkout every month. On average only one or two customers decide not to pay at the 2checkout.com payment screen after completing our order form. That's only about 3%.

Yep verry true.
Roy@ENHOST 11-14-2004, 01:55 PM Im assuming you are catering to a more techie audience.
Non techies generally freak out when they get redirected to another site. They will slide the credit card back into their wallet.
I am catering to a more techie audience too, that is why I am still using 2co and paypal.

geckofrog 11-14-2004, 03:11 PM The 38% is from my own personal experience, but an article from the wall street journal estimated that it was at 25%. Which means that if you had 100 people add something to their cart and started to check out 25 of them would drop their baskets when forwarded to 2checkout.com. This isn't because they don't trust 2checkout, but they feel it could be fraud, because to be really honest, 2 checkout isn't as known as per say: paypal. They get confused at to the site security and drop their baskets. Their are numerous advanatages with going with your own merchant account not to mention that you will get your money in about 2-3 days, versus 2checkout which is 15-16 days. =/
Harmolodic 11-14-2004, 05:17 PM Hmm, what's a "techie client"? The majority of our clients are the type of people who use FrontPage to upload their personal sites. I wouldn't say they are much different than the average eBay shopper in terms of Internet savviness. And yet our conversion rate is close to 100%.
I believe the problem of credibility is not directly related to 2checkout.com. If your site looks unprofessional and does not have a phone number / address listed, if your order form is not using SSL, if you do not explicitly state that all credit card payments are processed by 2co ("our preferred partner for credit card payments" or something like this), then redirection to 2checkout payment page can become an additional factor influencing the potential customer's decision.
I am not saying that 2checkout is an alternative to a real merchant account (when you are in US and can easily get one). 2co have too many downsides, but in my opinion the one you mentioned is definitely not the worst one.
Roy@ENHOST 11-14-2004, 10:16 PM Yeah I agree, for some reason I failed to take that into consideration. If your site was professionally setup and you have taken the time to tell the buyer what 2checkout is and how safe it is , plus educating the buyer about your industrial strength 128 bit SSL encryption, I think you will have much lower churn out rate.
