Dedicated 800Mhz 128Ram now $80 per month, no setup, 200 GB Transfer , I think two years from now we will be at $0 set up and $0 per month.

and price per gig in two years $.10 or free? is web hosting a business of the future?

Rackshack offers 300GB for $99/month, so 200Gb for $80/month doesn't seem TOO outrageous.

However, how is a company supposed to offer servers for $0 setup and $0/month? Where is the revenue? Banner Ads?

I think the point indaloman was trying to make is that prices are dropping so low and so quickly that they will reach nearly zero. I saw another post today where someone had a very different idea on this subject and that was that in 2 years or so the low end hosts(by which I mean the $1.99 hosting for 500mb and 10gb bw) will be gone and hosting would become a purer business. The thing is you do get what you pay for. If you get a p3 933mhz 256mb RAM dedicated server for $50 a month and it is down 20 hours a week, well, you really can't complain, you should expect things like that are going to happen (if it is a special to get clients in that is a different story)

Where can I signup for this $80/mo deal? I would pay and have it setup tonight!

I think he was referring to this thread: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33233

-though there are a couple of sub-$100 either dedicated or VPS offers in the http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=4 forum

While prices may be getting cheaper, the idea of a free or 10 cent service is a bit out of the question. Companies like rackshack deal on HUGE volume and build servers for very cheap but there is still a cost for hardware, bandwidth, staff, etc.... which will never go away completely.

Something that a 2 second search on Google will give you the answer to.

A Virtual Private Server is a "partition" on a dedicated server. So, a web host takes a big server, divides it into 4 or 5 parts and doles each part out as a VPS. You run your own instance of all software (your own Apache, Sendmail, etc) and have complete control over your partition, but you do not have to pay the hefty price that a dedicated server normally runs.

All in all, no, there is no difference. Just different acronyms.
