Do you think I can use the following server for serious hosting and what do you think should be the max amount of accounts I should put on it.

Dual 800Mhz Pentium
1 Gig Memory
2 36GB SCSI
100GB Bandwidth
$399.95

What do you think

Thanks

:D

The specs look great. I don't think I can really estimate how many clients you can host on your server, as every web site is different and its resource needs are different. I would say you could comfortably host anywhere from 200 - 400 average sites on that server. Again, depending on the sites, it could be more and it could be less. Its next to impossible to say for sure.

The answer is dependent on the size of the sites you host, and what they are doing (CGI/MySQL/etc). If you are talking mostly small sites, you can probably host around 300 sites on a server of that specification -- unless of course you are going to install Windows 2000 on it, then you will barely have enough power to boot up :).

you should consider what kind of hosting account you will accepted ??

Adult or NON-Adult ??

this are two different situations you should think about it or tell us first.

Windows should handle more than 300 and as it has been said it all depend on what are the 300 sites have.

I will be using Redhat Linux 7.2 and will not be hosting any adult sites

What do you think I can get on it ?

Do you think that dual 800 is needed?

Thanks

No one can answer that for sure, because it depends on the type of sites you sign up. If you sign up a lot of high bandwdith or CGI-intensive sites, you will be able to host fewer sites on the box then if you sign up mostly sites that are straight HTML, with little or no CGI. There is not a clear cut measure.

As far as dual 800 processors...the more CPU the better :D.
