hi all,

as a php / mysql developer projects / jobs from my local market place come and go - are there any places where you could offer your skills for jobs ?

some sites i've visted which are based on people bidding on projects - usually for the lowest wage possible - don't appeal to me as it usually takes uptp 4 weeks to gain the contract in some cases / then usually they will pull out of the deal ...

any advice on where to go look for some jobs / offer skills ?

:D

I suppose you are not looking for any bid realted sites, but you are welcome to take a look at our site. I doubt that most buyers would settle for the lowest possible bids just because of the price. Quality of portfolio, skills and references matter.

Well, that's the way world works and if there are tons of people competing for your job they are going to follow you whereever you endup looking for a job which means, bidding or not - you have got competition and lot's of it. You can make the best of it or shun it.

Beacuse we heard some sentiments like this we have a poll on our site asking for opinions with regards to hiding bids, so only the buyers will know of the bids which will avoid unnecessary cutthroat pricing. But to my surprise, over 90% of the programmers/designers say they want the bids to be displayed and are willing to compete. Surprisingly, the buyers do not want the bids to be public (don't know why as I assume they would be the ones who want competition).

I wish you the best.

Make a nice online resume that conveys your skills, education, interests, etc. A lot of businesses will find something along these lines impressive.

Gurudev,

It makes sense that most developers would want bids public, as otherwise they'd have no way of knowing whether they're being grossly undercut.

Manu,

I'd suggest writing that killer app, preferably many killer apps, and either open-source them or sell them on sites like HotScripts and Ebay. I've scored many of my clients this way.

Hi all,

many thanks for the replies,

i've tried elance a few times, but as u said - people that post projects on there seem to go for the cheapest option possible, which is not always the best option as Gurudev mentioned.

The Killer App seems intresting tho .... but what hasn't been done a million times over ... ** puts on thinking cap ** ;)

i like the option thats provided here on webhostingtalk - re: job offers etc, are there other forums like this one that exist ?

thanks again to all

:)

Sorry, didn't take the time to read the post properly...

Try http://www.freelancers.net and http://www.tightbriefs.com - although both are targetted more towards the European market, however last time I used them, the undercutting wasn't so fierce, and employers took time to consider applicants, and not go with the cheapest option...
