I finally registered my first domain name with Directi on Friday and I must say it is pretty cool. It was easy to set up and the best part is that in a few seconds the domain name was active, but I guess that is because of the new thing that ICANN has.

So if you are considering getting a reseller account with Directi, get it!

The best part is that they don't have a balance requirement when you pay with PayPal like eNom does.

Good job Directi!:spiny:

Glad to hear it worked out quite right. I have some domains with Directi and I am very pleased with their DNS services.

To me it came down to a stibility issue. Directi (myorderbox) just hasn't been stable. How can you have credibility with your customers when they always get Java errors trying to login to your storefront?

Anyway, Bhavin (CEO Directi) just sent out an email that explains some of the problems they were having and claims the system is "mo better" for everyone. Only time will tell.

Directi:
1) Java errors or
2) waiting for manage.directi.com or
3) waiting for foundation.. or
4) goto point 1

I got the same e-mail but I still like Directi.

I think directi needs another year or two (and some luck along the way) and then they will be a strong contender against the current market leaders.

You can still manage the DNS from Directi even if you don't get the DNS management.

Except the incidents on 5-6 November, they are doing very well for past one year. We are with them for now almost 3 years. I think MyOrderBox is stable now and have less bugs.

On Friday (Nov 5th) and Saturday (Nov 6th) we faced intermittent uptime issues with our storefront and control panels. I, along with my team have personally spent a straight 48 hours in resolving those issues. The issues included a D-DOS attack on the Domain Forwarding Servers for which we received little cooperation from our ISP. Along with the attack, there was a simultaneous issue discovered in SUN's JDBC implementation which unlike situations in the past took us comparatively longer to troubleshoot.

The issue was quite revealing. For those of you who are technically inclined here is a gist -

* Apparently at some random times the software was unable to make connections to the database server. While the database was fully operational and receiving direct connections, for some reason connections from the OrderBox were not going through.

* We off course did not doubt SUN's JDBC implementation and our sysad team, product engg team and s/w engg team began individually troubleshooting the network connection, socket connection, Database code, DB logs, processor load, number of threads etc etc

* Eventually after establishing numerous break points everywhere when we opened up SUN's JDBC driver we found that the getConnection method was in a synchronized block. This meant that a single database connection which got stuck in there could bring the application to a halt. We also additionally discovered that any connection attempt would take 3 minutes to timeout since that was the default timeout value within SUN's DriverManager class

* We have now rectified that issue by replacing SUN's implementation with our own implementation. We have learned the hard way that we cannot trust any external library even if it is written by the gods themselves :)

Everything is running smoothly since Saturday (Nov 6th).

Since the past 2-3 months, a large portion of our 25 people OrderBox development team have been working solely, on making structural changes to the OrderBox core code, to improve stability and speed of the storefront and control panels.

We have applied a huge batch of these patches on Saturday which fixes a lot of bugs that were reported to us, and further, will enhance the performance of the system. Another series of patches are going to be deployed over the next few weeks. Also, we have recently put in hooks in the software which improve our ability to detect various types of errors and exceptions that you may face in the system. A set of people in s/w engineering are dedicated to simply ensure that these are tracked and resolved.

I apologize for the intermittent issues caused in those 24-36 hours. We have taken sufficient steps to ensure that these issues do not repeat. We have also taken steps to allow us to perform faster troubleshooting next time onwards.

Feel free to write me directly (bhavin DOT t AT directi.com) with any feedback or suggestions you may have.

Thanks
Best Regards
