Hello,
I run the company http://www.skylap.com which is a reseller of donhost.co.uk. Dispite reading all of the terrible reviews of this company, I decided to sign up anyways and get a look first hand.
At first everything was running 100% smoothly. Tons of accounts were being set up and like was good.
Before I signed up, the tech support was very friendly and helped me a lot. Now that I actually signed up, the tech support has because very rude and not caring.
They closed 3 of my accounts because they had downloads on them. The downloads were owned by the person but donhost didn't care. What a stupid system.

anyways, I need to know what a good reselling plan is. I would actually just like to buy my own servers but I can't find any information on them. Can anyone post some good hosts with a story behind it?
How are all of you hosting sites? Do you own servers? Are you reselling?
I NEED TO GET OFF OF DONHOST ASAP! THEY ARE TERRIBLE.
Thank you,
Mark

What kind of downloads were they?

they were just some starcraft (the game) replay downloads. They were like 0.4MBs each. Its pathetic how they're treating me.

is starcraft the game copyright???
I have a donhost reseller and i have had customers trying to install chat scripts etc ......donhost havent deleted any accounts yet because i always check that its ok to do something that way i always have their written word in email if legal action was ever needed.
I also found the other day that their tech support had become quite rude so i emailed them back telling them how appalling i thought it was and they are now as nice as pie to me.
I make sure all of my users agree to their acceptable use policy so that if problems arise i do not get the blame and at the moment i am not accepting sites with loads of downloads. I am on a years contract with them but next year i will probably try somewhere else!

starcraft is of course copywritten but the replay files are allowed to be distributed legally 100%. They are a stupid company.
I too have told them that I didn't appreciate the abrupt reponses, etc and they still don't care. They then tell me that they talk to me bad because I talked to them bad. What a ridiculous company donhost is! never again.
My users agree to the policies as well. But donhost is being stupid about it. I'm looking for my own server. I'm actually happy that their system went down for a bit. I bet anything it was from someone who got screwed over.
They screw people over on their spare time. That's their main slogan of the company.

Donhost say in there acceptable use policy that u cannot have files for download unless they are your OWN even freeware files are not allowed so it is you who has broken their terms

Yeah these people own the replay files. They are allowed to sell them or do whatever they want with them. This customer prepaid an entire year which I put into the donhost payments. What do you suggest I do? Return the year fee? Or keep it? I don't have it.
donhost is a sad, sad host.

WHen we were with Donhost ..... about 8 months ago, they said you cant have any zipped files on the server period even if they owned the copyright or not stating that they cant tell the difference and dont care.
Yes Donhost is very rude and abusive and cost a lot of collateral damge monies by closing your accounts.
We moved over to Rackshack.net on dedicated servers.
If you need help let me know via Email.

Guess Daniel has finally gone over the edge then. When I was there we had a debate over files like this and what he used to do was change the file properties to zero bites so that the client had to keep uploading them

Just a reminder to always read thoroughly any TOS or other Agreement as each host has different levels of tolerance and restrictions. If they post it clearly, I don't see how you can object to them inforcing it, even if you feel the policy is stupid....you were the one who should have said, "I don't like that policy, I will host elsewhere."

Incognito, I've read the entire 10pages of policies. Nowhere did it say that uploading owned files were illegal. I am ashamed and embarrased to have signed up with their crooked company. They run a crooked business and make money from suckers like me.
I will warn everyone not to go to donhost.co.uk. they are a terrible TERRIBLE company. "beware....beware....(ghost voice)" lol.
