ASPCode.net 01-31-2002, 03:43 PM I visited your site and although you have a Microsoft Windows logo I didn't see Win2000 as an option for a dedicated?
Do you offer it?
downkaos 01-31-2002, 04:07 PM Yes we offer windows 2000 if you must have it!

Ok, I wouldn't normally bash an advertisment, but this is really quite absurd. The only reason someone would buy this would be if they were mislead by your deceptive advertising.
downkaos 01-31-2002, 04:10 PM Why is that deceptive, I'm telling you how much it's going to be after the first month, I'm not trying to hide it. We have a stable backbone and we are offering servers for $1 for the first month.
cperciva 01-31-2002, 04:13 PM If the subject line was "$1 dedicated servers for the first month of a six month contract", I would have no objection.
i swear i've seen that site somewhere else...
downkaos 01-31-2002, 04:27 PM can't change it now, sorry, but anyway we are still offering servers for $1 for the first month
optix 01-31-2002, 04:45 PM I'll give you $1 for the first 6 months of the contract, then $1 for the next 6 months. deal?

na....but thanks for the offer, we'll keep it in mind :)
Mirage-ISP 01-31-2002, 05:50 PM I am confused...what is absurd here? I dont see anything deceptive about his ad, or even close to absurd. There are a few companies offering the first month free. There are even some companies offering regular web hosting specials for 3 months free.
*shrug*
I have a client who may give you a shout or a pm :)
voxtreme - philip 01-31-2002, 08:45 PM I don't want to bash your offer.......
Your WHT deal:
$1 (1st month)
$175 (next 5 months)
For the minimum contract of 6 months:
$1 + $175 x 5 = $876
Dedicated A on your website (server with exact same specs as the WHT deal):
$149.95 per month
For 6 months:
$149.95 x 6 = $899.70
So you save a total of $23.70 over 6 months but then after that you are paying $25.05 more per month.
Are my calculations right?
Is the server you are offering here the same as the one you have on your site?
downkaos 01-31-2002, 09:48 PM Ya it's the same server, but after the 6 month contract is over the price goes to $149, so you do save a little bit of cash. This is for those people that can't afford large start up costs, we know how they feel :). Maybe you should worry about your services instead of ours :)

Making it drop to $149 after 6 months does make it a cool deal ;) ..shame u left it out in your original post :erm:
Chicken 01-31-2002, 09:58 PM I don't find anything absurd or deceptive either. While I don't want to criticise your opinion cperciva, I just want you to know I've check the offer and it is fine as posted.
I was the one to add the "(first month)" to the topic of this post. Before, it simply stated "$1 dedicated servers". Sorry for any confusion.
Chicken 02-01-2002, 02:24 AM Ahhh, yeah that might be pushing it a bit. I see. Anywhooooo
downkaos 02-01-2002, 03:47 PM I don't see why thats pushing in when companies offer huge packages for $99/month but don't tell you about the $350 setup fee?
Chicken 02-01-2002, 04:35 PM There is a certain level of advertising that is acceptable (based on judgement, not an exact formula). We realize that you cannot possibly fit the entire offer into the subject line of the thread, and that good ads have a hook, however, a company offering $99/mo dedicated servers is offering $99/mo dedicated servers.
'$1 dedicated servers' is beyond that level of acceptable advertising for a thread topic, as you aren't offering $1 dedicated servers. Just the small change in wording '(first month)' makes it fine. If a company had a thread title for $99/mo dedicated servers when in fact this was only the first month price and the fee from then on was $150/mo, I would change the thread title to $150/mo dedicated servers.
I hope this clears things up, but if you'd like to debate the issue, feel free to email the moderators.
