PLEASE NOTE - WHY THIS OFFER IS DIFFERENT:
If you have been looking at other offers, I'm sure you have seen dedicated servers ranging in price from $50 to as much as $300 or more.
Here's how we are different:
We own and operate many servers for our own use. Through our experience over the past six years we have learned, first-hand, a few things that you should be aware of:
1. The majority of servers are heavily under-utilized. We have servers with 100 websites or more and they barely show 20% cpu utilization. Our servers have ample power for DNS, Web hosting, and even database applications. In simple terms, don't be fooled into thinking you need the latest dual Xeon 3 GHz server. You'll be overpaying for a lot of extra horsepower that you probably never need. (If you want bragging rights "Hey folks, my dedicated server is a quad processor Giganteon with umpteen Gigabytes of memory" then be aware your ego is going to cost you a lot of money.)
2. The most important issue with having a dedicated server is hardware reliability. If the server is unreliable your services/sites go "down" and "off the air" and even worse, you run the risk of losing all your data.
We have found through our experience, that using error correcting (ECC) main memory is extremely important. (Ever have a PC that mysteriously hangs, or locks up for no apparent reason? The most common cause is a memory error!) ECC SDRAM is also much more expensive. We simply refuse to use anything except premium modules from Crucial/Micron. We do not use non-parity or non-ECC ram and we don't use unbranded, mixed-chip memory sold mail order or at your local computer store.
Finally, disk drives fail. Disk drives use spinning thin metal platters at very high speeds. Disk drives are high-precision sophisticated mechanical devices and unlike the other electronic components in a server are very susceptable to "wear and tear" and other mechanical problems.
We only configure our servers with dual disk drives. We strongly suggest that the server use the drives in a RAID 1 mirror configuration. Windows 2003 server has RAID 1 mirror support built-in. With a few simple mouse clicks the operating system will insure a real-time mirror-image of your data is kept on the second drive.
When a drive fails, the good drive continues to run, your data is still available, and a horrible "crash" is avoided. (Please note that RAID does not protect against software or other errors, such as 'delete *.*', so please also perform regular backups of your data).
Bottom line, if you want a highly reliable, full-featured dedicated server worth $300/month or more for only $100/month, this deal is for you!
