In a nutshell, could someone (or two) please explain what the criticism is against Cogent. I've seen the phrase "low-quality bandwidth" used describing them, but I'd like to know what makes it low-quality and why their bandwidth is so inexpensive compared to other carriers.

Is this criticism justified, or have Cogent's detractors been brainwashed by the big guys in the industry? If you co-locate at a Cogent-provided facility would there be a detectable performance difference versus a facility that uses, say, MCI?

isn't there enough discussions already regarding this matters? Somebody even had a speed test on cogent network. I think searching the forums will already have answered your question ;)

cheers,

Yes, there have been a few discussions about Cogent here, most of them just repeat the mantra "they suck" and don't shed too much light on the subject. That doesn't quite cut it. But I missed the thread with the speed test. I'll look for that, thanks.

I think I followed most, if not all, discussions about cogent ... One of the reason why some people think cogent is lower quality bandwiht is because they do not have too many peering yet ... Anyway, as I said ... there are a lot discussions already ... This thread will just be similar to any one of them, the pros and cons about cogent ...
