Hello,

I wanted to know what people thought was a better offer, this is my first dedicated server, and I am unsure. Considering the Raq is only 300MHZ processor, and the amd is 800, but the raq has a better backbone... what do you guys think

1) Raq 3 $75/Mo
- Sprint, Savvis, GTE, Cable and Wireless, ATT and COX Upstream
- 65GB Bandwidth
- 8 IP
- 256RAM, 10G H.D
- 99% Uptime
- Browser based Control Panel

2) AMD Athlon 800Mhz CPU $80 MO/
-Uses Cogent Abovenet
-128Megs Ram
-RedHat Linux 7.1 Or Windows 2000
-20 GB HDD
-200 GB Monthly Data Transfer
-24/7 ICQ Support
-2 IPs

Machine is for a few sites,

So Basically AS-IS which one in your opinion is better

But both of those are fine for a single site or a few sites. However, both need beefing up for any serious hosting.

The Cobalt needs a Ram upgrade, although a Raq4 would be even better.

The AMD also needs a Ram upgrade.

And both are rather low in storage.

If I needed to choose, I'd get the Athlon running Red Hat. It needs more ram, and the 2 ips is rediculous. Find better dedicated servers.

So what would you guys say was required from a server?

What is the a reasonable spec for doing serious hosting without going right to the top end of the range?

Or put another way what is lowest practical spec you need?

I would go with the RAQ. Since you machine is only for a few sites it sounds like a better option to me.
