Your site says yoou only give 10GB transfer. How many sites can I host with only 10IP addresses? 10? Is there are control panel? Do I need to know unix or anything?

mysql included?

Heh, Colocation is when you send your own server in, not rent one, so what you get/need to know depends on the system you send in.

If your talking about the http://www.rapidcolo.com/redhat/ RapidColo 1.0's then here is the info. :)

There is no control panel for free but here are the options for them.

WebMin *Free*
H-Shere 2.9 Can be added for $200 one time Fee for 50 Clients.
CPanel Can be added for $100 Per month.
Plesk can be added for:
for 30 domains $199 USD
for 300 domains $599 USD
for Unlimited domains $799 USD
Also we will support HostGUI once it is out.

You don't need to know very much of linux with any of these control panels installed.

As for IP's if you setup IPless web sites you can have as many as you want. You could host 500 web sites on one IP if you wanted or you could get more IP's as needed..

mySQL comes with all our control panel setups. If you go with out a control panel you could use WebMin but do need to know some *nix.

As for the 10GB of transfer we give this for free in the 1.0 Dedicated Servers on rapidcolo.com

RapidColo
01-31-2002, 05:41 PM
That is true.. But i think he may of been looking at a Dedicated Servers from the sound of the question but i am not 100% sure ether.. :)

Ends up being cheaper in the long run (sometimes even on the short run). :)

Vortech/RapidColo: Impressive special! Good luck to you on your new expansion. :)

what do you think for dedicated servers? what is the difference with a private server?

what's the best didicated server deal on the internet?

allera
01-31-2002, 07:21 PM
To keep the thread on topic, colocation is great if you have a fair amount of capital and want to keep operating costs down. Buy a server for $1500, colo it with this special for $99/mo. You probably won't find a better colo deal out there (not that I've seen, and we colocate).

porcupine
01-31-2002, 07:22 PM
Dedicated servers are good if you need a server, and have the $$$. nowdays colocation and dedicated servers are fairly close in price, but dedicated servers are typically just a lil more expensive then colocation space. It's also good if you don't have a server, and/or can't invest in one.

Colocation is good if you need a really high powered server, or something custom, because typically you'll pay a LOT more monthly for high end hardware (dual cpu's, huge scsi disks, raid setups, etc.)

The best dedicated server deal? depends on your needs :)

I just want what donhost.co.uk has but I don't want to be connected to that terrible company (donhost) at all. Colocation is not for me. I'm sure there's more deals out there anyways ---------> :puke: i can't afford much since i'm only 19.

what would you all suggest?

What does donhost.co.uk have that you want. We do all kinds of custome deals as well.

Be it Server Collocation , UNIX Dedicated Servers, Windows 2000 Dedicated Servers, Shared Web Hosting, e-commerce solution.

Plus we run and suppor every good control panel out..

With the likes of:
H-Shere, Ensim, Plesk, CPanel and the upcoming HostGUI.

<<EDIT>> I asked on here, because i thought since they were advertising their facility they may want to go into detail a little more on what was in it, looks like a nice place they should show it off, the whole point of asking was so people who wondered upon that thread could see off the bat what their new facility offered.

<<EDIT>>

Great to here about your new facility guys and great special...

Hey cbaker17 i missed your post sorry about that.. :)

But most of it is here http://www.rapidcolo.com/facilities/

BTW we are not with datacolo but i do know them well as they are not far from us.. :) Good guys as well..

We are with Level(3), Qwest and UUnet right now. Also looking in to TW.

We are in colosolutions datacenter right now. But we have all ready got out own place in the same datacenter.

The datacenter all ready has UUnet, Level(3) and a few others big guys in it. We just got out hands on about 2000sq foot of datacenter space in the same building. Every thing there is about ready to go. But we also work close with Colosolutions as we have more racks in there then any one else i think.. :)

Pre-action bad. Once it goes off your servers will short out.

RapidColo
02-01-2002, 08:36 PM
Really did not know that.. :)

Hope it does not go off in the next 9 months..

Now i need to check and make sure our system is not setup the same way in ours.. :)

That listing is for Colosolutions.. Ours will be fully done soon as well.. Thanks for the TIP.. ;)

jayglate
02-01-2002, 08:38 PM
You need FM200. Most colos when they build out in a building disable the preaction and get recertified with FM200. So there servers don't short out.

cbaker17
02-01-2002, 08:59 PM
Your going to be in for a shock when you find out how much it costs to install fm200, over 100,000.00 and thats for a small space, plus if it ever accidently goes off, its about 60,000.00 to refill it

jayglate
02-01-2002, 09:04 PM
Correct, but any colo who wants to call themselves a colo who doesn't have it, isn't worth taking the risk to colo there and the facility shouldn't call themselves a colo. I would rather have the preaction turned off. But that is against the law.

All safe thanks for pointing that out guys.. :)

I was wrong.. There damn PDF they sent me was wrong..

They have:
Fire Suppression System
Dry-pipe pre-action sprinkler system
FM-200 gas or Halon system
Smoke & fire detection

All safe http://www.colosolutions.com/html/body_data___colocation_centers.html

I called up going nuts.. hehe Then they said i had a old PDF check out the site. LOL Plus then the pointed it out to me.. Had seen it 100 times should of remembered.. hehe

P.S. cbaker17, The place we are getting is all ready done with FM200 so i don't have to pay for it up front.. :) The full system was left by anther Telco when they left the datacenter.. hehe Saved me some bucks..

Yeah, you should have seen the face of our new Landlord when I told him he had to remove the system off our noc room, he tought I was crazy ..

it's actually not too bad if the suite it's beeing build ground up, but I woudl think to put it in an existing working suite must be a pain and expensive

Vortech,

I see you used the same figures we did when figuring out and listing your bandwidth.

128 Kbs / 40 GB
256 Kbs / 80 GB
512 Kbs / 160 GB
1024 Kbs / 320 GB

Even that part to contact us for above 1,024kbps.

Oh hey, so did we! So did my colo providers! Wonder who started this 128kbit = 40GB shindangle.

Oh, you know, we have 64kbit listed too. It equals 20GB. Not sure if anyone's used that one yet. I'll check though.

Sorry if I am taking this the wrong way? But are you trying to say I copied:
128 Kbs / 40 GB
256 Kbs / 80 GB
512 Kbs / 160 GB
1024 Kbs / 320 GB

From your site http://awebhosting.net/ ?

I have never seen http://awebhosting.net/ in my life plus why would I have to copy bandwidth amounts.

Only thing even 1/2 way close on your site was this page but it even does not list GB to transfer there http://awebhosting.net/products/dedicated/add-ons.htm

Also just anther note.. Also used the same thing here http://www.vortechhosting.com/dedicated/co-lo.html the pricing on vortechhosting.com is about the same for rapidcolo.com also says "Additional discounts available over 1024 Kbs /month. Please contact our sales staff for more information."

If i missed something here please let me know.

Every one knows 320GB is 1024K so starting there and working your way down has never been hard as I like math.. LOL
