View Full Version : Beware of ServerBeach
eGuru 11-05-2004, 04:02 AM Yes BEWARE of Server Beach
I have a personal very bad experience with them which shocked me when I heard of this that they tried to hijack my client
I had a Redhat 7.3 Power2200 Server (AMD Athlon 2200 Processor) with them early this year (actually booked at last year) and suddenly one month I got a problem and my server was down for more than 15hrs due to the spam by one account on the server. Actually my server got suspended due to the non responding on the Spam alert mail by them (that was my fault). But as soon as I was aware of it I try to contact them sort out the matter. But is the mean time one of my customer directly contacted the ServerBeach and asking them about the downtime. He talked to one of the biggest CROOK in the SevrerBeach named Roger (who claims to be the owner of that place), in the Sales Department. Roger said that the server is suspended and if he(my client) wants then he can also make arrangement for a new server for him at very cheap prices(my client was a reseller of mine). I don't understand that what does he means by arranging a new server for him as he clearly knows that he is my client and he tryigng to HIJACK him. And the next day my cleint told me about this incident and simply he left me. There was no point to argue with him (Roger) because he is rude as I also talk to him in the past due to few problems but he was never satisfactory.
I just want you to be aware of them as if this is there common practice then no one will ever want to stay with them.
Yes, one more thing that I never had anyother type of problem with them. Almost no downtime problem,no hardware or network problem. Why I'm telling you this is because I want you to aware of the fact.
RouierV 11-05-2004, 04:44 AM I'd be interested in seeing some proof.
eGuru 11-05-2004, 04:49 AM What sort of proofs you are expect here ??? I can't ask Roger to confess what he said and commit here.
I just share my personal experiences with you. I am not aimed to make a bad reputation of ServerBeach but what there employees were(are) acting like is unbelievable.
Believe it or not it's upto you. I can't force anyone to agree with me.
RouierV 11-05-2004, 04:55 AM You used strong words like CROOK and HIJACK.
I just know how it feels to deal with disgruntled customers who can't get their way. Recently I've seen a lot of "If you don't hook me up I'm going to post to WHT" so no disrespect but I just thought you might be able to provide some chat logs, transcripts, support tickets, etc.
eGuru 11-05-2004, 05:08 AM As I said I never argue with them because I had my server live with them and there was logic to argue with them becasue they never agreed to what I said. They can suspend my server and I can loose all my clients on that server.
Yes, I did use the strong words because if you were in place on mine then how do you feel if someone try to hijack your clients.
wheimeng 11-05-2004, 05:13 AM How did you communicate with Roger?
eGuru 11-05-2004, 06:50 AM Most of the time on there Live Chat.
nybble 11-05-2004, 06:55 AM Well.... I don't like them all too much.
I called to ask about a server and we talked for a bit and then in the end I said I would check it out and let him go...
Moments later he calls me back (He has caller ID I guess?) and says "How do you feel about ev1 charging sales tax anyway?"
He goes on to tell me how bad these other places are and how they do none of this nonsense....
Ok well, as soon as he called me back without even asking me and started bad mouthing ev1.. well, that was when I knew I was not going with them.
Chrysalis 11-05-2004, 07:45 AM sister company of rackspace not surprised they follow the same sly tactics.
Trickah 11-05-2004, 10:05 AM I'm actually kinda glad I read this. I was wondering how their service was after seeing commercials on TechTV. Both ServerBeach and Rackspace had some really lame commercials going there for a while. Thanks for the heads up tho.
eGuru 11-05-2004, 10:16 AM I thought that they were only pain for me but it seems that SB/RS is a kind of pain in many heads :D
The Higher Authorities in SB must be aware of what there employees or staff persons are doing at there datacenter. Some of them claims to be a Owner of the place but don't know whether they are or not, (BTW owners don't have to express themselves to the visitors/customers). But this is clear that if they behaves like this to there customer then they will be nowhere in the market soon.
Dabrom 11-05-2004, 10:40 AM There marketing is complete bull. They say 2,000 gb of data transfer. Though on there F.A.Q. they consider 40mb=1GB of data transfer. I wouldnt be ticked if the prices were so high. They also charge for troubleshooting tickets. There very tricky and nasty.
wheimeng 11-05-2004, 10:49 AM This board has few peer1 top management, maybe they will look into this.
apollo 11-05-2004, 10:59 AM you sure it's "40mb=1GB " ????
Dabrom 11-05-2004, 11:19 AM Ill post what part of the F.A.Q. It says from. 40 MB boot - 1 GB SWAP. So that bandwidth allotment. Its 33 on presales.
apollo 11-05-2004, 11:40 AM I think that is for partition sizes.....
Dabrom 11-06-2004, 01:09 PM I think so ,but they seem to underestimate the customer.
dodgly 11-27-2004, 07:36 AM Dabrom,
Pardon me, but I think their FAQ is amazingly clear with a heading like: "How are the Hard Drives Partitoned?" Nowhere in that FAQ do they elude to their bandwidth figured on some funny math like that...it's clearly about partition sizes.
Also, how do they seem to underestimate their customer?
I *am* one of their customers, and a happy one at that--I've never felt like they underestimated me. Even after I goofed my server up initially they kindly fixed it right up and didn't even charge me a ticket. They include three "Move-In" tickets to get me started and even with several other support requests they kindly helped me with no charge to the three-ticket bank.
Buyer beware...they didn't hide anything...it was all very clear to me. I read everything on their site before making my decision and so far they've met every promise.
Best wishes,
eGuru 11-27-2004, 10:22 AM The issue is not which you are talking about..........the main issue is about hijacking client's customers and that is very very bad
Intex 11-27-2004, 11:09 AM This is sad... Sorry eGuru...
I'm with BeachComber.Net - They've been most excellent. I suggest that you check them out if your looking to switch providers.
Once again... Sorry...
eGuru 11-27-2004, 11:13 AM No need to be sorry my friend because SB is the one who should be sorry for this.
I'm having all my servers with BURST.net right now and very happy with them too. Also, before installing my next server, sure I'll look at BeachComber.net
Intex 11-27-2004, 11:17 AM Great.
Best of luck to you.

tuxwarrior 12-29-2004, 10:50 AM I have been with serverbeach for about 9 months, and haven't had any problems yet. They seem pretty cool everytime I have had to call them. But thanks for the heads up.
aitfree 12-29-2004, 11:43 AM oh you mean u didnt know ?
last i heard about server beach they were about to be bought by the devils own hosting company ait. So it wouldnt suprise me if they have taken over that some of their crooked staff from ait are now working at server beach
