Anybody know of a good online/offline resource for 'expanding knowledge' about bandwidth/data transfer with respect to serving web pages?

I've searched this forum but no beginners stuff is obvious.

Thanks anyone. :)

I'm not familiar with the 'expanding knowledge' protocol. Is that some newly proposed part of the TCP/IP revisions?

 @ etLux. ;)

Felix, try out http://www.hosthelp.com if you haven't already.

Ahh, etLux.

It's good to see that your humour hasn't been blunted by your imminent 'redundancy' (another fine technical term) due to be brought about by all our 'younger', more learned, yet often irresponsible colleagues :)

I stand corrected. What I maybe should have said was 'expanding one's knowledge', eh?

BC, thank you.

I should have known that I could count on a fellow Aussie :)

BTW, commiserations to all our West Indian friends tonight. (Cricket)

I shall indeed look where you pointed and no I haven't been there.

Thank you both.

BC, thank you. It's also a good place to refer customers.

Do you know of anywhere else which has bit more meaty stuff?

I'm not a telco technician, but I have an understanding of the basics. For example, I'm trying to 'predict' consumption for certain users I have.

Based on my knowledge of their site content, history of traffic etc, I am trying to work out reasonable limits to set in Kb/s and balance it all with my monthly quota.

Any directions gratefully accepted. Thank you.

Maybe this will help you out?

I don't know who maintains, but it was pretty good so I bookmarked it. :)

Vincent,

.....that's also very helpful and worth printing out:)

Thank you.(how's that grumpy old bas***d, Chris N? ha ha)

How do I dish out an output bandwidth limit to a client in kilobits per second and relate that to gigabytes per month??

Should I just leave it unmetered automatically and check it manually every few hours?

There's more, but that's what I'm getting at.

Actually, I knew exactly what you meant, and had a link in mind (since posted) to which I was going to direct you.

There it was, right on the tips of my fingers, and... it refused to go onto the page.

Instead, I was overtaken by an attack of smartassedness; for which I apologize.

ROFLMAO! ;)

Felix : welcome. I'm surprised it didn't turn up in your search, as HostHelp is an oft-mentioned resource for beginning terms. Ah well.

May I also second the commiserations to our West Indian friends..... I predict a whitewash of sorts.

Vincent : techcellence.net is updated by our venerable Duster. It also has some excellent resources on finer details of hosting as well.
