I am in San Francisco, CA currently. Thought I may continue my datacenter tour (visited Colo4Dallas and RackShack in Texas last week). Any nice colo providers here worth checking? ;)

Any nice colo providers here worth checking? ;) Incognito 01-30-2002, 11:38 PM I know colo.fm uses it as do others. RackMy.com 01-31-2002, 12:31 AM Savvis has one, and I think efreeservers is in a Level3 datacenter. ReliableServers 01-31-2002, 01:35 AM Efree uses www.exchangecolo.com from what I know. dabystru 01-31-2002, 10:34 AM Interesting colo.fm's address is the same as eXchange colo: 200 Paul Avenue. So it must be the same facility ;) Anyway, hope to visit them today. remarkable 01-31-2002, 10:59 AM Isn't Huricane Electric in Freemont? Gernot 01-31-2002, 04:53 PM Cogent doesn't have any facilities at all. Colo.fm, efreeservers and also 321Host-It :) are at 200 Paul Ave which is owned by eXchange Colocation. It is one of the greatest data-centers in northern California and definitely worth being checked out. ebird 01-31-2002, 05:20 PM Originally posted by Gernot Cogent doesn't have any facilities at all. Then what do they have? How can they offer 100Mbps for $1000? Gernot 01-31-2002, 05:44 PM Cogent has a presence in the biggest data-centers across the country, most of which are carrier neutral. Cogent just 'lights up' a given data-center (provided it's big and good enough for them) by bringing in a fiber line to their backbone. Then they install their equipment in this data-center and when anyone wants connectivity from them, the data-center staff establishes a cross connect from Cogent's switch/router to the customer's location at the data-center. After doing this, the customer can use their Cogent pipe. This is a highly cost-effective way to sell bandwidth. Cogent does not run any facilities (data-centers) on their own. |
