I am about to sign up a dedicate server. However the provider ask me to photocopy my credit card and fax to them. Are they allowed to do this?? I mean I have purchased hundred of product online. I never encounter anyone doing that. I can understand they want to prevent fraud. But their procedure just seems to be a bit strange to me.

It basically means they are trying to protect themselves from fraud. If someone had your CC #, and wanted a dedicated server they couldn't get one from this provider because they wouldn't have your actual CC. It's Almost like having the actual customer in the store.
This is only to help prevent fraud.

Yeah I have also had to do this a couple times. Guess it does just depend on how bad you want it.

I guess only do it if you're really really interested in getting this. if you're just trying it out. i wouldn't.
