I've got about 4000 members signed up to my site, and I'm fixing to do some major updates and would like to send out a notice to my users. Can anyone tell me a good program/script/method to use for this?

Also, I'm using hMailServer for my SMTP mail. Can anyone forsee a problem with overloading it?

Thanks guys!

Instead of sending mails online using a webserver why don't try sending mails using your own local computer. All your need is to have a Internet connection. Just download this free SMTP Server - PostCast Server Free Edition from http://www.postcastserver.com/download/ . This will not overload your webserver. Also note that most of the hosting providers have started putting limitations that how many mails per hour you can send and mostly set it to 100-125. If you use the solution mentioned above, you can send 3000+ mails per hour using your own computer and without overloading the server.

Another good one is Mail Them Pro http://www.kadmy.com/

Manages your lists and you can import your email addresses.

ListMailPro.com
Tell Dean, KidGeek.com sent you...
All my clients love ListMailPro....

Also ConstantContact.com if you want an online service.
Whats great about this is, you don't have to worry about being blacklisted if someone thinks you are a spammer...

Try

constantcontact

- easy to use
- hosted service
(if you try this yourself, your server will land
on the spam lists)
- simple pricing (per amount of email addresses)
- import email addresses
- Excel import to update names or other additional fields
- personalized messages (Dear X Y, ...)

after installing 12all on my own,
i stepped over to the hosted solution,
because i needed blacklisting (robinson list)

Why are we bringing this thread up from the dead 9 months later? Just curious....

By the way,
(if you try this yourself, your server will land on the spam lists)

How do you figure? We host many legitimate sites with legitimate double opted-in mailing lists and our IPs are not blacklisted for it. The only way you land on the spam lists, is by.... spamming.

Thanks for your quick reply,

It was my choice, because i only have to maintain a
small amount of email lists (10 clients with 1.000 to 5000
email addresses in the lists per client)

For this reason i stopped trying to figure around with
installing software and spenidng hours investigating
why the cron jobs dont work.

It just showed to me that the time is not worth for
self installation because of the big gap between
the 2 types of newsletter solutions i found:
- too expensive to maintain
= software solutions for self installation, but lack of manuals
(i mean good installation manuals that help you through
all kinds of troubleshooting issues)
- too expensive
= marketing guys that dream of thousands of bucks
with weird pricing.

So please feel free to throw your best choice suggestions at me.
I would be very interested in goog recommendations fot
a solution choice out there.

thank you.

PHPlist.com

That's an open source program, that deals well with a few 1000 emails per list. You can personalise the text if you want and do a lot of great things.

Better, you have a sign on/ change your preference form.

PHP+Mysql easy to install.
