I have stumbled across this provider while browsing the web. Their rates seem to be very good for what it's offering. I'm new to this board and I thought I'd share what I found. I think I will be signing up for a month initially. If anyone thinks I can do better, I would appreciate a response. Thanks. Take care.

 Pop ups are worse than free sites--good grief! I don't care what kind of deal they offer, they lost my business just for having to close 8 or 9 pop up windows

Their site crashed my browser with all of the popup ads. Based on that I alone would rather host my site on a Lite Brite connected by a tin can with a string to the internet.

Surely all these popups must put everybody off...can you imagine this company having any customers?...This must be viewed as spam. It was certainly unwarrented. View this website at your own risk!. If you sign up with them please let us know...because I think we will all be at risk from you!

Hello Everyone.

First off let me apologize for the pop-Ups. Some person from here sent me a little over 300 emails all with the same subject "Your POPUPS SUCK!!! WebHostingTalk OWNS YOU". We had a guy going through our site, and inadvertently included some javascript that was used elsewhere. The pop-Up was originally promoting our best offer for the month. Fortunately, our sign up rate was 95% from the popUp, and the other 5% from the plans page. I have removed it, as we are in the process of updating our site over the next few days.

If any of you are interested in using our services, you may contact me for a personal price quote for your troubles in accessing our site. It was not our intention to create an arena where people would have a horrible experience just by visiting our site.

Thank you for your time,

Just curious:

How does a popup offering a special "inadvertently" turn into a spam popup? Do you use spam popups elsewhere or something? I mean it's not like he just coulda accidentally deleted the "special.html" and have the popup *know* that an add was supposed to go in there, and load up spam instead :D

We were going to experiment with different advertising programs, and if a user was already offered our hosting plan, then the popUp would give them a different offer. This was something that was in the works atleast 4-5 months ago, and was quickly determined that it was not appropriate. Somehow, possibly when we were updating for the new plan of the month promotion, it was inadvertently reinserted. The advertisers we were using therefor caused the multiple popUp windows, as we don't use them anymore.

That didn't really answer my question.

How does a popup offering a special "inadvertently" turn into a spam popup?

As I stated earlier, the code to run the other advertisements was inadvertently inserted.

Do you use spam popups elsewhere or something?

No we do not use them elsewhere.

I believe it was retrieved from Visual Source Safe from the special that was run 4 months ago. He never modified it, and put it live. He did not realize that it had our advertising in it that as I said previously we made the decision that this was not the best route for our customers.

I'm not trying to avoid your question, maybe I am not understanding it correctly?

What im saying is when you have a popup on your own site to your own special, you will have a simple link to it. When those popups came up, they were linking to an extrenal site, which had semi-nasty popup spam code (one of those little windows that tries to hide itself and randomly generate spam windows until you find it, and close it). So what im asking is, how did the second url (the nasty spam) find its way in there, because it's very difficult to inadvertently put that in a popup link (and not notice it for that matter). I'm not trying to make you look bad or anything, just some honest curiousity :)

Checking through the old code, we linked to a javascript on an advertiser's site. This script has the malicious code in it that would result in multiple popUps. Honestly, this idea was trashed some 4+ months ago, and I was amazed when I visited it myself to find that this was occuring.

My browser has crashed multiple times with various popups. After visiting the site ONCE. I keep getting ads, even when am not on the internet...though am connected via cable modem.
----AND Even after clearing my cache.----

Fathosting, those explanations are totally inadequate..it was a cleverly engineered ruse started by 'Sensai'.

Chuck.....You pm me how to take out this garbage from my computer. And for now..I am asking nicely. My work has been disrupted all evening by these pesky ads that keep popping up from no where. I wont send you 300 emails ..but ONE.!
So please lets take care of this and go back to the business of web hosting. Thanks

queensoul: The only thing I can tell you to do is to restart your computer in hopes of being able to remove anything that is still running. If I wanted to get a lot of traffic, to generate advertising revenue, having someone post this here would be an idiotic thing to do. Again, I apologize, and I hope that you are able to have a better day.

Thanks,
Chuck
