View Full Version : godaddy bloking countries?
contra 11-03-2004, 12:26 PM Hi!
I live in Estonia. its a small country in Europe. I cant access godaddy.co since yesterday, and everybody i know cant access godaddy also. Is it possible that godaddy has blocked whole country? This sucks bigtime...
nameslave 11-03-2004, 12:40 PM You know what, block them in return. I have been blocking AOL for many years now. ;)
Seriously though, I think it's a lame practice to block customers geographically, and still pretend to be a big company. If they cannot handle international orders, say so; or like many companies in the U.S., simply take domestic orders only.
basheer 11-03-2004, 04:47 PM Hi
I am in Kuwait city, MiddleEast..
I am not able to access godaddy.com from yesterday too...!
I think they have a major problem...!
I also noticed that some data centers in the US are facing some problems...
any news?
gghosting 11-03-2004, 04:56 PM They might just be having problems, it doesn't mean that they blocked you. However I am having no problems with them and I am in the U.S.
sweechi 11-03-2004, 11:13 PM mee too,
I am from malaysia, i registred two domain name previous day ago, and have a ploblem to access godaddy.com site since yesterday, and my two of the domain name getting ploblem too.
any 1 know what is the real ploblem with godaddy.com?
Masud 11-04-2004, 12:24 AM I am from India and facing problems in viewing my ex-registrars site :D
It is very slow. Maybe some issues with their hosts / DC ???
dmaven 11-04-2004, 08:52 AM if I lived outside the US I would never use godaddy(personally I stopped using them myself), since they block countries withouth notice. As they keep getting bigger their policies will probably get worse. They will soon suffer from the dreaded NSI syndrome.
zongoo 11-04-2004, 09:06 AM Damn, I'm from Lithuania. I have over 50 domains with them and I need ti update dns info. If that's true on blocking countries, I'll move from them far away.
Ferman 11-04-2004, 10:09 AM Not sure about GoDaddy. Everthing seems fine here
But i know that Enom is blocking some countries, not during the login process, but during the purchase/transaction
zongoo 11-04-2004, 12:50 PM After treatening them to stop their ****, got answer from them:
"Thank you for providing the requested information. It appears that the IP you are using is currently being blocked, as it resides within a group of IP’s with an exceptionally high fraud rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you and will assist you in any way possible to move your services to another provider. Please let us know if we can help you in any other way."
It means I must pay $500 for transfer of all of my domains. They don't care I have an account since 2001.
zongoo 11-04-2004, 01:08 PM Filed a complaint for them on FTC. Let they sing now.
ZiplineNetworks 11-04-2004, 05:13 PM if they can't deliver the service you want, then change providers.

It's not so simple as that for when you transfer to a new registrar, you have to pay for 1 year again for every domain you have.
afandina.com 11-04-2004, 06:14 PM In Egypt, it opens here.
xgoth3 11-04-2004, 07:28 PM I'm in El Salvador
All is working here
samdax 11-04-2004, 07:58 PM I have godaddy account since 2001 with 80 domains.
They just block IP without any notice or explanation.
This is my list of blocked countries (I collect them by surfing around internet, probably this is not correct list, but also possible to have some more countries that are blocked)
China (incl. Hong Kong)
Indonesia
Malaysia
Pakistan
Philippines
Singapore
Cuba
Iran
Iraq
Libya
North Korea
Sudan
Syria
Bulgaria
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Serbia and Montenegro
Estonia
Lithuania
Romania
If they have high fraud rate isn’t it logical to block particular countries IP during the purchase, why they block all access to accounts for earlier regularly purchased domains?
However, they keep billing my CC for auto renew domains that I cannot access or control.
What to say, I start moving to enom
Enom did not block my IP and I use my CC without any problem.
I read in their faq that it is possible to block some ip address only for CC payment and they never block domain control center or their public site (like godaddy) and you can always use other payment method than CC processing (like wire transfer or you can simply send check to them).
It's not so simple as that for when you transfer to a new registrar, you have to pay for 1 year again for every domain you have.
This is not true, in transfer price one year renewal is included (by enom) so for example if you have domain that expires feb/2005 for transfer you will pay (about %8,95) but after transfer it will expire feb/2006.
eGuru 11-05-2004, 03:19 AM They will for sure loose there customers by this move. It will be better for them to tighten up there security holes rather than blocking up countries.
We do get Fradulent orders from such countries like Bulgaria, Vietnam, Malaysia etc. and we do have very good clientage in these countries then it doesn't mean that we should block the visitors of these countries.
Ferman 11-05-2004, 04:13 AM These kind of problems generally happen because some smart guys hack and take control of the computers connected to the internet with that ip range and use them to attack the servers of Godaddy... They do not block your account, they block the ip range. What is the temporary solution for you? Try to use an https based proxy server to access your account
In that case Godaddy is doing the right thing to protect their server from dos attacks
zongoo 11-05-2004, 06:45 AM They unblocked it, but I filed a complaint with BBB. They must pay me for non-delivered services and for a forced transfer of domains.
Bashar 11-06-2004, 02:54 PM it seems they had some dns issue, used not to work but not working just fine.
Bashar 11-06-2004, 02:54 PM yet they have some blocked countries due fraud too.
elecso.com 11-06-2004, 09:05 PM :)
Well yes they are surely blocking the countries....
I think its un ethical......
