I faxed netsol yesterday for DNS and e-mail changes 1/29/02
How long does it usually take to get the changes done?

Well theres your first mistake, your with netsol, expect a weeks wait......

The root dns servers update at 5am and 5pm, so propagation takes about 24-36 hours, sometimes...

If I where you I will call them up and make sure that they did get the fax knowing how netsol is they could loose it. So give them a call to find out if they did received it.
But once they do make the changes it will be updated within 24 hours.

Good Luck!

You guys are still talking about how long changes take to be effective in the root nameservers. DNS caches out in the real world can take weeks to reflect the changes.

The last time I actually moved sites from one IP to another, it took a full three weeks before the old IP address went totally quiet. It was amazing.

Just moved another account and it took 24 hours.
Moved one about 2 weeks ago and it took 36 hours.
Moved another about a month ago and it took 72 hours.

It shouldn't take more than 48 hours for propagation after they actually add the domain to their name servers. It just depends on how quickly they add it.

It's not the root server delay that's the tough one, it's any cached DNS entries out in the world that don't bother to refresh often enough.

The root servers are updated regularly. You can't say that about every DNS cache on the Internet.

thewitt I think you need to have a personal talk with your local dns server :D

During the last 4 months I've helped customers go through a few hundred DNS changes. Never did it take more then 48 hrs after the changes were made before both they and us could view their page on the new settings.

I swear, it wasn't me :)

The last move between hosting companies literally took three weeks before people stopped hitting my old site.

The root servers were updated virtually overnight.

My new hosting company defined my new DNS records flawlessly, however caches out of my control kept pointing at my old IP address for weeks.

It drove me nuts.

I redirected everything that hit the old website to my new site via a PHP script, but still kept the old IP address live for much longer than I thought I would need to. This was a very active website (100k+ hits a day), and I did not want to deal with anyone not being able to locate us after the move.

It took about 24hr for the dns to take place for me. i was using netsol but i used the webbased control panel. Pretty decent, then again im a newbie :D

I also had a domain reg with registrar.com, guess what, netsol bought them out, so im back to square one. Go figure :D

That's happened to me as well. Exactly 3 weeks surprisingly...
