Jim [NG]0wner 01-29-2002, 09:22 PM Yep, Cogent has entered into Due Diligence with PSI's US operations. [NG]Owner jimb 01-29-2002, 09:42 PM so does that mean that PSI NET stadium where I go to watch my Ravens play football is now going to be called Cogent stadium? Jim allan 01-29-2002, 11:20 PM Originally posted by jimb so does that mean that PSI NET stadium where I go to watch my Ravens play football is now going to be called Cogent stadium? The Ravens suck :D -- the only good thing about Baltimore is the Orioles, and with Cal gone, I'm not even sure about that :). Actually PSINet has allowed the payments for the name on the stadium to lapse, and the owner of the stadium does not expect to find a new taker: http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bal-to.cowherd28jan28.story So, you will probably be visiting a newly named stadium when Football Season starts back up. Cogent has also stated that if they do purchase PSINet they will not be purchasing stadium rites, as well as some other PSINet blunders. jimb 01-29-2002, 11:29 PM I feel sorry for the Houston Astros....playing at Enron Field Jim allan 01-29-2002, 11:36 PM Originally posted by jimb I feel sorry for the Houston Astros....playing at Enron Field I don't know, I think I agree with the article, my wife used to work for PSINet, and the biggest problem she had was trying to explain to people outside of the industry how to pronounce the name :D. I think it would be interesting to start a pool, betting on which stadium name is going to crash next. My bet: 3Com Field jimb 01-29-2002, 11:51 PM Originally posted by uuallan My bet: 3Com Field Isnt 3Com not doing so well with earnings and sales? On Yahoo Finance, they are reporting a 55% decrease in sales. Also, they are based out of California, why would they be interested in a Maryland stadium? You misunderstood, I meant they will be the next Field sponsor to fail (3Com Field is the old Candlestick Park) jimb 01-30-2002, 11:02 AM Originally posted by uuallan You misunderstood, I meant they will be the next Field sponsor to fail (3Com Field is the old Candlestick Park) Ooooh, I get ya :D :D Jim TheGAME1264 01-30-2002, 11:20 PM Miller Park (the home of the Milwaukee Brewers. Since the Brewers are a small market team and one of the bets to be eliminated during contraction eventually, and Miller Park is a baseball-only stadium, down it goes.) Failing that...the Savvis Centre in St. Louis (home of the NHL Blues). Most people can't even SPELL that one. vipe 01-31-2002, 12:14 AM Originally posted by jimb I feel sorry for the Houston Astros....playing at Enron Field Go 'stros! Could it become EV1/Rackshack Field now? :D Don't forget the Compaq Center as well, heh. alchiba 01-31-2002, 12:48 AM Originally posted by uuallan Cogent has also stated that if they do purchase PSINet they will not be purchasing stadium rites, as well as some other PSINet blunders. That's heartening news. I can't stand the site of that stadium as it is, let alone the ugly purple and that grandiose corporate signage. It's a memorial to failure. I wince and look the other way as I drive to the Orioles games. Amost two months to opening day. Can't wait. TheGAME1264 01-31-2002, 02:40 AM I can. My beloved Toronto Blue Jays are tied for first in the AL East right now at 0-0. After a month in, we should be battling with the D-Rays for that precious 4th place ranking. I love my Jays but this is a rebuilding/retooling year and well...this just isn't it. That's why I'm also down with the Mets. I think they're the team with the most legitimate shot for one reason: they've got protection for Piazza. When Piazza's protected, he puts up MONSTER numbers. And when he does that, Mets go to the playoffs and then the World Series and take it all. (Now if only he had a gun like Pudge Rodriguez...ah well.) jimb 01-31-2002, 08:01 PM Originally posted by alchiba I wince and look the other way as I drive to the Orioles games. Especially since Camden Yards is one a true feat of architechture, Camden Yards is just the best ball park, and the first of its kind :) Jim TheGAME1264 02-01-2002, 01:07 AM I'm a fan of the old-style ballparks (gawd I hate the Skydome by the way) and I like Camden Yards, but my all-time favourite is Safeco Field in Seattle simply because it's more of a pitchers' park than the rest of them. That's why the Mariners did so well in the regular season last year. Their park is geared toward pitching, defense, and solid run producing, and not the modern-day "sit-back-and-wait-for-the-three-run-homer" approach. What can I say? I'm a purist. El Nino 02-01-2002, 01:13 AM If the Dallas Cowboys rename Texas Stadium to ***** Stadium, I'd kill someone, probably Chris Faulkner. :D Incognito 02-01-2002, 03:24 PM What a partnership that would be. |
