View Full Version : minimum server speed and RAM for a 146 GB SCSI server

I'm going to order a server from GNAX with two 146 GB SCSI HDs, and I will be running about 70-90 accounts on it that use perl, php, asp, and jsp with heavy load on mysql queries. Average account size will be 1.5GB, while Im expecting about 1700 GB of bandwidth to be used from the server per month.

So, my question revolves around the minimum CPU speed and RAM to be on the server for everything to run smoothly.

I was thinking of the following specs:
Dual Xeon 2.4
3GB RAM
Primay HD: 146 GB SCSI
Secondary HD: 146 GB SCSI
RAID 1
2000 GB Transfer/month

Is this sufficient enough, or do i need to increase it? or is it more than i actually need?

Why not split the load between servers, how about getting two servers, 2GB RAM and SCSI drives on each, not Dual Xeons if its going to be expensive, but you can slap MySQL on one server, and other processes on the other and create a network between them both?

Split to 2 servers, 1 on MySQL and another on other stuff.

.....seriously though, thats pretty much it.
Server A hosts MySQL - Server B hosts apache and webpages etc

You will probably get better performance on a Dual Opteron. You may want to look into that as well.
