View Full Version : mount directory in FreeBSD
jbullard 10-30-2004, 10:26 PM Hi all,
I was wondering if someone might be able to explain to me how I mount a directory in FreeBSD. To give some insight I am trying to isntall H-Sphere but I am having some trouble. I figured since so many here are using it I would see if anyone might help a brother out. LOL. If someone could please explain the steps they took in order to get it working on a FreeBSD machine. I have had nothing but problems. Probably because I am new at FreeBSD. 4 years of Linux and then FreeBSD. things are that much different but some are very different. Thanks in advanced if anyone can help.

Chrysalis 10-31-2004, 10:11 AM that wouldnt work in freebsd the command you are looking for depends on the version of FreeBSd.
FreeBSD 4.x
mount_null /<mounted>/<partition> /<location>/<to>/<mount>
FreeBSD 5.x
mount_nullfs /<mounted>/<partition> /<location>/<to>/<mount>
jbullard 10-31-2004, 10:21 AM I have tried a lot of different things and I just keep getting a device busy error. I appreciate all the replies and have just reinstalled the OS. This way I could mount it at install to avoid having these errors. Thanks once again.

Steven 10-31-2004, 10:43 AM To install hsphere you do not need to mount anything different, just ln -s /home/hsphere /hsphere and your done.
jbullard 10-31-2004, 11:49 AM Well when I go to do quotaon/off/check I get the error saying /hsphere not mounted. When i go to make install in hsphere I get a stop error at quota_check. That is why I was trying to mount hsphere to see if it would work.
Thanks,
jason
Steven 10-31-2004, 07:14 PM You do not try to mount /hsphere if you do the symlink trick. You instead remove the partition holding home, which is normally /usr
jbullard 10-31-2004, 08:07 PM Well what I ended up doing was creating a partition for /hsphere as the psoft.net states. The reason i did not do it in the first place was because I was told all I needed to do was mount that directory. Boy was that wrong. So i created the partition and then reinstalled h-sphere. It worked perfectly but I got errors during the post-install installation. So I removed all of the files and reconfigured everything the way it was. Now I can't login to my server. I am guessing this is just an ssh problem and are working the issue. But if anyone has an idea please let me know.
thanks,
Jason
Steven 10-31-2004, 08:17 PM Well you may have messed up the sshd config, hsphere changes it.
jbullard 10-31-2004, 08:39 PM Yes. I got it now. This program is very buggy. I am having nothing but error after error installing. Contacted the staff three times today and they have not returned a single answer. Not sure if they just don't know or just now there. It would be nice if they said hey, we here but we have another issue. You know what I mean. Oh well. I guess until they return my ticket I can't log out. LOL that sucks.

Steven 10-31-2004, 09:34 PM The program is not buggy at all if you can install it correctly. IT WAS NOT MADE TO BE UNINSTALLLED.
jbullard 10-31-2004, 10:49 PM That is correct. But when you follow directions and get a 100% configuration and then try to install and the system hangs at one point. Then you restart your server and it goes past that error and then hangs on a new one. Then restart again and it goes past that error. Get the picture. I have heard that psoft actually has a installation script that is 20 times better than the one they release to the public. I am guessing that this is why they will install it for you. HMM. LOL. I am sure that once the program is actually installe it works like a charm but getting it there is very difficult. I have tried a lot of different techniques to get it installed but everytime it is one error. Actually the same error. So I am definitely making process. Looks like I am going to reformat again. man that sucks. Luckily it is an easy process though. On your website. Do you offer installation of h-sphere. if so what is your price. I am telling you that I have had nothing but problems. Maybe if someone else does it for me I can see where I went wrong. Well let me know if you do and what the pricing is. I noticed ya'll are taking limited orders so just let me know. Thanks,
Jason
Steven 10-31-2004, 10:56 PM Sorry I cannot talk about that on the forums because its against the rules. You can email sales however.
