I tried to become a McHost customer - I really did. After what seems like *nearly* unanimous praise here I decided that they were probably the hosts for me. However, I had a few questions that I needed to ask first, and as each e-mail is answered about two days after sending it I STILL don't know what I need to make me sign on the dotted line.

So, I asked Voxtreme and VirtualISP to answer my questions and they've got back to me a damn sight quicker. Does anyone have any experience with either of these? (before you say anything, I know I "should be using McHost", but trust me, it's hard work!!)

Cheers,

Ed

Just been catching up on the rest of the threads...

According to my esteemed fellow WHTers:

1. people don't like virtualISP because they offer "unlimited" (ish) bandwidth...

2. Voxtreme spends more time down than up!

What's a bloke to do?! DataHosts? Remarkable? ANYONE??!!

Ed :uhh: - going slowly mad...

Although we would all like to respond to all inquiries as quickly as possible, I really put more emphasis on how one responds to support issues, than to sales inquiries. I admire the host who has the priorities straight. And, I have found, unfortunately, that one is not indicative of the other.

I would agree that response to support issues should have a higher priority than response to sales enquiries, but as a prospective customer one is the only indication you have of the other! If I had thought that on signing up I would suddenly get a faster turnaround then I wouldn't have made an issue of it, but first impresisons have a habit of sticking, not just for me but for customers in general!

Where have you found this?

First impressions are everything.

I think a host that doesn't feel like answering a sales e-mail with "How many _____ do it get?" sure won't want to answer support questions like "How do I configure my ____?" I think it is a cop out to say, our sales responses are bad because our support is superb!

Also, this isn't regarding MCHost as I don't know anything about them.

I don't know anything about them either since they never returned my question(s).

So...did not sign up. :)

Ed...I signed-up with Voxtreme and Cyberwings. I use both for different market. :)

They always return my emails promptly. Happy so far. :)

Although I am not a client of MCHost, they replied to my question in less than 20 minutes. I believe that is pretty good. They also have a message board or forums to post questions and feedback.

I've been with voxtreme for almost a month....

Even though they recently had some server issues, the
quality of this host is superb.

Technical Support is more than helpful and very prompt.
With access on AIM, ICQ, Live Chat on their site and forums.

I am certainly glad I made this decision.

They have exactly what I was in need of.

I'm with MCHost at the moment, and response time has always been slow for me. :( My account took over 36 hours to setup. :( Some of my tickets take over 12 hours to get answered. :( Marc ignores my e-mails and private messages. :( The service is great though. You get everything they promise. I've decided that a reseller package is not for me so I'm working on getting a dedicated server from Site5. Basically, when I need to change something that WebHost Manager doesn't allow you to change or when WebHost Manager screws up, I'd like to be able to switch to root and change or fix it myself instead of contacting technical support and waiting eternity for a response. MCHost is working on their own control panel that will hopefully have more features and less problems than WebHost Manager and CPanel. Anyway, if you're looking for a reseller package, the top three recommended hosts on here seem to be MCHost, Splash Host, and Ventures Online.

I think many people don't understand that MCHost is not a 1-person company. You should honestly see all the questions i get every day through email (about 140 per day) and PMs (close to 100 per day).

Yes, account set-up times are delayed since about 3 weeks or so by an average of 12-15 hours, since we are receiving a very large amount of new signups, getting new machines online pretty much every day and when they are not ready yet, we don't wish to overload the current machines simply to get the accounts online faster. :)

I understand you get a lot of private messages and e-mails, but I see you telling people to private message and e-mail you all the time, which makes people want to contact you directly. I understand you're very busy, and it'd probably be better to make your e-mail address less public if you don't have time to respond to most of them. I also understand the staff is working very hard on many things, and I'm surprised how you guys can keep your cool under such pressure.

I signed up with them, and I can say that in my experience (I've hopped through many host hoops) that McHost is the best and most reliable company I have ever come across.

To be fair, I've only been there two weeks, but the support and comadere (sp?) is amazing. Resellers helping resellers, amazing scripts, quick service, and an amazing system (VCP coming in the pipes.
