I have a run a small hosting company (around 400 clients) and i currently have my first box nearly full. due to the recent price increases and terrible client support, i am considering simply colocating at VDI.

could anyone help me figure out if this would be a "good move" of if i should stick with Alabanza.

Any help at all concerning past experiences with VDI or positive thoughts on this would be appreciated.

would the switch be worth it? is there a lot of set up/config. time needed with the new VDI system? is VDI's support any good?

I need help soon....

Hi Nate,
VDI and Alabanza comparisons have been done many a times on this board. But it ultimately boils down to is, what you need and what you can pay for. Alabanza has the fully automated system, where as VDI is yet developing it. VDI prices are much cheaper then that of Alabanza, but VDI support is pathetic. If you do choose to go with VDI, I would suggest you go with site5.com or ultraspeedusa.com, and not directly with VDI.

You can search for more information on both the NOC's by clicking on the search link on the top right corner of this page.

I wouldn't say VDI support is bad. If you email sales you might not get a response for a while...but server problems are always fixed fairly fast.

Well, yea, I guess I made a mistake in expressing myself. VDI sales support is bad. I dint have any luck with there tech support, coz I dun have a server with them. Some one who does have a server with them would know better.

Personally I wouldn't I wouldn't go with VDI. I would choose one of the people who co-locates with them such as Ultraspeed USA (http://www.ultraspeedusa.com) or UK (http://www.ultraspeed.co.uk). You are much more likely to get better support from a smaller company.

I signed up with ultraspeed about a week ago. I currently have a server with alabanza and am going to move mid december.

Ultraspeed has been good so far in the time I've been setting up the server and such. To comment on the Alabanza vs UltraSpeed thing... Alabanza does have a fully automated system, which I adore, but UltraSpeed, as stated, is developing theirs which I think is great because that means my ideas and suggestions are being put to good use. Since its being built, I can say maybe this should be done that way, and it will actually get done.

Thats already happened with the alabanza migration program they have (yet to try, but their making a change for me! weee).

VDI offers great panel and frequently upgraded; we've got machine at Colossus, Alabanza, DI. Big companies full of tech and powerful sales dept. No doubts.
All we needed was: to keep our wallet safe saving money, to get a very good three level control panel, immediate assistance and very important a server purring like a kitten.
All we can say is that as somebody else said on here "guys at Ultraspeedusa would probably answer your question before VDI people opens your mail.
All those things mixed together are making us grow fast and almost without problems.
Boys when you stay up till 2 am cause the too many new settings.... that's what we've dreamt on months ago.

We don't think we'll move that easily from Ultraspeed.
I hope this would help you, nate.

P.S. forgive our bad english, we actually make hosting in italy.

VDI does not have a Sales Team or Sales Department. So that may be the reason you are assuming it`s bad?

VDI does not advertise or solicit for clients at all.
we have a email sales@vdi.net, for people that seem interested, we try to answer as quick as possible.

99% of the signups are people who know what they are looking for and understand that they support thier client base. We assist in thier business, not run it.

WE are not geared or wanting to support "End users" example "Virtual domain hosting" we are simply not in that market or claim to be.

VDI provides the Foundation and tools, you are required to use them to the best of your knowledge and skills.

*just like a carpenter, you give him the tools and the wood, it's up to him to make it into a house.

Our job is to make sure it`s the best tools and Wood possible;)

thanks for your reply william-->

but it seems as though your answer is a little biased since you work for them. sure...you are entitled a rebuttle to any of the above claims, but i was lloking for some real answers from people in the industry.....not just an assocoate of VDI who wants to lecture us on what is, or is not within the scope of your support team.

i have called VDI and spoke with several people:
-one was bothered by my call
-one did not have time to talk
-one was supposed to get back with me and did not
-and you guys never answer humanclick -->EVER!

this is why i am apprehensive in the first place to move to a company who does not have "people oriented" associates. while you may want to supply people who allready know what they are looking for, it helps to have someone who can actually communicate orally.

maybe i will keep looking...especially since you answered with such condiscention.

everybody else....please keep helping me out with all the suggestions, as i really appreciate them.

I`m the owner, so i would get all the calls, I don`t recall telling anyone i didn`t have time, or seemed bothered by a call.

All calls are forwarded to me, not a sales person.

If you have an issue, you can email me wjensen@vdi.net.

so we can start on page 1 again and if you do call ask for Bill.

Hi,

I might take a look at http://olm.net. I think they have exactly what you are looking for. Redundant DS3/OC3, Unix, right around that price range. I believe they use the newest version of Redhat not free bsd though.
