I don't want a typical hosting company name and I was lucky enough to come up with two unique names that might work. Please tell me what you think of the following 2 names and which one you like better.

indoob.com (Indoob Hosting Solutions)

sydex.net (Sydex Hosting Solutions)

Indoob.com was to be similar to the godaddy sound of things. :D

the only thing I see wrong with indoob.com is when I first saw it I thought it said noob (newbie)

I don't like them, but then again I don't have to like them. People try to get common names for good reason, people remember them and spell them easy. Plus so many have hosting in their name, to make it search engine friendly.

If no one finds it with a search engine, and remember it then they will not find it. Unless your getting your customers, from other means keep this in mind when picking your name.

I realy like indoob but rather not for hosting company. (It would be nice logo from that name)
Sydex is good but I would suggest .com domain.

Maby look for something else :)

Try something unconventional... like dataMOTEL... (I don't know if that's taken.) There are so many tech names already out there. Do something different.

Took us a few months to settle on our name. Pick what you will stick with specially if you take time to start branding it. You would hate to spend funds to brand your name in places to just change it 1 year later.

indoob - sounds like an adult website name
sydex - good enough name, hard to spell

I used to run a hosting company with the name "excelex". Everyone would spell it wrong so I ended up losing a lot of customers. I have a feeling that sydex might end up with the same thing. It could have easily been misspelled as sidex, sydX, or shidex, .... Just with one easily possible misspelling, and the name would chase away a lot of customers. I would choose some easier to remember ones.

At the end of the day- the simpler the better.

If you can relate it to a real life word of phrase, you are onto a winner.

Most fancy-snazy madeup names suck. Choose a real name that's easy to remember and spell. If a customer recomends your service to a friend he shouldn't have to spell your url every time. Like is it sydex or cidex?

isn't 'doob', in some form, slang for drugs ?

So why post?

Sydex is the better of the two, but if your thinkin up something different... think up something which has the .com and all major tld's available for you to register.

Yeah sorry. For the record, Sydex is the best! Although for some reason it suggests poison to me...maybe, Anthrax - Sydex, I dunno!

Yah your right Matt,

I will just build the business plan for now without the name. Gonna spend some time brainstorming names, because I will be putting some money behind this to do it right.

If you can, get hold of a program called NameRazor, it's normally $59, but I got it for free somewhere...it might have been from a web site or on Ares or something but I'm not discussing that ;)

The point is, it is a good program for thinking up names. Alternatively, get out a pen & paper, write down a list of stuff that you like, and see if you can get any variations or plays on words (not to major), or put 2 words together. It can work quite well. But NameRazor's quicker ;)!

indoob I either see the word noob or boob...

Sydex sounds like a good name for an aluminum siding company.

*Edit: Accidently quoted myself rather than editing my post. :(

I like Sydex myself, but as mentioned you should make sure the .com is available. Even if you prefer to use a .net name, at least park the .com on top so nobody else takes it.

Indoob, I'm seeing boob and noob, and as mentioned, a doob/doobie is slang for a joint.

LOL - Boob is what I thought of too. Anyways, I like Sydex - It is short, yet can pass as a hosting company. It is a lot better than

www.the-best-web-site-hosting-firm-in-world.com

Unfortunately lots of hosting companies can't find a name that is even decent and resort to horrible names.

Im sure when your out something will just spring into mind, anyway it doesn't have to have anything to do with hosting in the name its your site, you make it what you want ;)

Sydex is pretty good. I like it, relatively easy to remember.

sydex is better if you can get both the .com and .net

Good luck!

indoob - with hosting and probably most other companies, you want a name that will reflect the nature of your company and the service it provides. Like GoDaddy somewhat gives reference to the service they offer and Google is a word you might associate with alot of information. Indoob - I just can't see the tie to your hosting company.

I agree that sydex is a better name but sounds like a pill to me.

When selecting a name, be creative - cyberacres or something like that. Also - do like we did with N2activeWeb (interactiveweb)

You will find something - just take your time and when you find it -you will know cause it will just hit ya.

will7

I would advise AGAINST plays on words like N2activeWeb. It makes it hard when you tell it to someone. Like, until recently, my company name was FusionCre8 Studios, now if I went up to someone and said "Go on fusioncre8.com", they might type in www.fusioncreate.com and I would have to explain "No, replace the 'ate' part of 'create' with the figure '8' ". It's just not sensible, at least I don't think so!
