View Full Version : 2.50 for gig at tb...I only use two gigs of transfer...take it?
TGL4387DD 01-28-2002, 10:40 PM Well, if you take a plan B with http://www.tera-byte.com, you are charged for 2.50 by gig. I only use about 2 gigs of transfer monthly? Should I take it? The only reason why I am getting a tera-byte account is because I got my shared account suspended because my forum took too much resources. Should I take it? Or should I just go with some plan at aletia?
web_res 01-28-2002, 11:00 PM You will also have to pay a $100 dollar deposit. If you use 2 gigs a month then $5 dollars would be removed from it every month for twenty months. Thats very cheap at $5 bucks a month....
It sounds kind of uneconomical though and I'm not sure if i have tera-bytes colocation plan completely down.
dektong 01-28-2002, 11:10 PM since when 2GB/mo transfer is considered using too much resource?
cheers,
web_res 01-28-2002, 11:13 PM I wouldn't call 2 gigs a month too much resource but, it really does sound uneconomical to colocate a box for only 2 gigs a month and only $5 bucks a month. Makes you wonder why 1u's were created, i thought space was important?
dektong 01-28-2002, 11:15 PM "Plan B: Your monthly bill is a direct reflection of the bandwidth you use. Your bill will reflect this and can grow substantially if your bandwidth increases. There is a minimum $25 monthly charge for 10 gigs of transfer"
So your minimum colocation is $25/mo which is still very cheap ...
cheers,

web_res 01-28-2002, 11:18 PM Oh, that changes everything.... Ultra cheap... It's been a while since i looked at their pricing page....
I'd say go for it as I used them as a host before for virtual sites, connectivity was excellent... Server performance was another issue.
TGL4387DD 01-28-2002, 11:25 PM They suspended one of my shared hosting accounts because the MySQL vBulletin was taking too much server resources (CPU, RAM), not the site itself. So I should take it?

wait, are you taking a colocation plan for your site? DO you have a server to be sent there?
cheers,

web_res 01-28-2002, 11:38 PM If you don't have your own server and just want to host one site, then go with the shared hosting.
Liquidweb.com is one that i had a decent experience with. Good connectivity and good server performance. I ran a mysql/php ad script there for all 15,000 daily hits i got. No problems....

It's been a while since I visit their pages too (looks new everytime I visit them). This means they are now providing the cheapest colocation deal I have ever seen! As low as $25/mo and this includes 10GB of bandwith!
cheers,

web_res 01-29-2002, 01:08 AM Definately, the best part is i've never had a complaint with their network. I have had issues with their machine performances as previously mentioned but thats irrelevant. :)
Very exciting but unfortunately I have no applications for this... I am thinking of possibly hosting a high resource (cpu+ memory) low bandwidth server over there in the future.

I was just wondering, is this part new? i don't seem to recall this, or maybe I just missed it (not that it's a biggie, just wondering).
TGL4387DD 01-29-2002, 02:52 PM Um..I don't want to colocate. I want a dedicated server with them.
web_res 01-29-2002, 04:45 PM I have a good feeling that you'll have to pay much more then $25 dollars for dedicated. Infact I'm fairly sure, it's hard to swallow that TB will be charging $25 bucks a month and include a machine. There might be another $100-$200 fee per month in addition to the bandwidth fee.
Even when you get colo plan B they charge $25 bucks but you must send in your machine or have them build one for $900 something.
So if your willing to pay over $100 per month for what could be done on a shared hosting account then go ahead.
You could check the page again or talk to a tb sales rep to confirm.
Why don't you just get a shared hosting plan somewhere and use different forum software. Something like PHPBB that uses a MySQL backend so that resources aren't as much of an issue. I don't see how it makes any sense to host a site that small on a dedicated server... would be a waste of money.
astralexis 01-30-2002, 04:38 AM Hi TGL, I guess you meanwhile asked TB what this Plan B is all about? What did they say? Can you get a dedicated server for 25 bucks?
If you have your own server, you can co-locate it for $25/month. If you don't have your own server, Tera-Byte can build you one for around $1000 or you can lease one for $100/month.
