Okay, at the moment, I have a desktop that I would like to make a small server to host a single site. Can you please tell me of any software I could need to get it up and running?

System Specifications
AMD Athlon XP 1400+ (1.4 GHz)
1024 MB PC2100 RAM
60 GB IDE HDD

I have XP on it but can use any OS. Can you direct me to any sources of software needed? Thanks.

http://www.openbsd.org :-)

I'd recommend buying a seperate computer. Your box is WAY overkill for a small home webserver.

Thanks for the link.

It is a separate box. It's not my actual PC I use. I guess I could get another (I just pick up parts as I see them). What would an average one for a small home server consist of?

If you are comfortable with *nix OS, pick www.redhat.com or www.freebsd.org
If you are not, choose a solution from Microsoft, but i wouldn't go with that one.
Then, yeah, this PC is too much for a small home server.

slap me several times for saying this, but you want easy, single site, then go www.microsoft.com

Windows 2000 with IIS server on it will do the trick easily

*slap* *slap* *slap*

He said he wanted to host a website, not run a worm farm.

(yes, windows can be made secure; but I don't think setting up a secure win32 box is any easier than installing, setting up, and securing FreeBSD.)
