View Full Version : VPS : Servint VPS or PowerVPS
DediPlace 10-26-2004, 11:24 PM Hi!
I need upgrade to VPS, and considering either Servint VPS or PowerVPS. Can you help me decide? How about their uptime? Their service? Which one will you choose?
Here are the plans:
Servint:
Product Specifications:
RedHat Linux
Equal-share CPU usage
DirectAdmin License (latest version)
10 GB Storage ($3/month per additional GB)
200 GB Monthly Transfer ($1/month per additional GB)
1 GB RAM burst, guaranteed 256 MB minimum
4 IP addresses ($1/month per additional IP)
Unlimited Domains, Unlimited user accounts
Included with every VPS you get:
Fully Managed service with 24/7 support by phone and email
FREE - Full daily backup, even if you're over your disk allowance
FREE - Exclusive access to ServInt VPS Forums
FREE - Registration in our Referral program to earn free service and cash
Full root access - install custom software, control your VPS
$0 setup, $49/month
PowerVPS :
RedHat Linux
Equal share CPU
cPanel/WHM (latest edition)
Fantastico De-Luxe
Clientexec
1GB Burst RAM
256MB RAM guaranteed
10GB Disk Space
150GB Monthly Transfer
2 IP numbers
Power Panel
Your own name servers
Unlimited domains
$44.50 / month
POwerVPS is much cheaper but Servint have 50Gb more bandwidth in a difference of $4.50. and I think Servint is with DirectAdmin included while PowerVPS is not.
Lastly, can somebody help me on some articles on handling / administering VPS, this will be my first time and I was a reseller only for 2 years, and it's time to upgrade.
Thanks
JHServers 10-27-2004, 12:27 AM There has been tons of posts on this same exact subject (powervps vs. servint). Try searching, but in any case. I always say that ServInt is great. I've never used PowerVPS but I plan on growing to a larger relationship with servint. They are in my opinion the best VPS host for what you get and the price.
$4.50 isn't much of a difference, I've been with servint for a while now and love them. Would definitely recommend them. They also offer a cpanel version, I have not used directAdmin...
DediPlace 10-27-2004, 03:21 AM Hi!
Thanks. I already ordered from ServInt around 2 hours ago... just waiting for the welcome message or email.
btw, what is the average account activation time in ServInt?
Thanks
slowdive 10-27-2004, 06:23 AM My VPS with ServInt was up within three hours of the order going into sales. A point to bear in mind is that their sales department is office hours only so if you're international, there may be a delay.
Support is of course 24/7 and sensational!
My VPS is a Direct Admin build and I am very pleased with it. As DA is new to ServInt there's less information in the forums than there is for cPanel but they are usefull never the less. The DA forum is the best place to get up to the mimute advice on your shiny new VPS!
Servint's support is really good too, will hold your hand basically :)
but ya, sales is on business hours... eastern standard time. Should get activated in a few hours today.
RapidVPS is on the up and up recently,

Usually a max of about 12 hours for a VPS from ServInt.
richy 10-27-2004, 06:34 PM Pick servint, their support in sensational which really swings it! They really are great. The network is as solid as any other Ive used, the hardware is top notch, the support and price clinch it.

When this benchmark is run on the PowerVPS server every VPS on that server is being hurt in terms of performance by that user... the same benchmark test on ServInt VPS would not cause my sites to hang :). You decide.
boxhosts 10-27-2004, 08:51 PM hurt but not hurt under 12, in the 23 hours in day 40 for performance, in 1 hour servint performance...

kb9tyc 10-27-2004, 09:30 PM I have a VPS at Servint. I have been there over 1 year and it was the best hosting decision I could have made. Support can not be beat and I have yet to see a response of over 10 minutes.

Not everyone is using the VPS for hosting and not all companies use ClientExec. Fantistico is a one time fee of $25.00 I believe.
Servint backs up your data daily to a different machine. You can have them restore anything from a single file all the way up to the whole VPS. They keep 3 copies of backups so you can choose what one you want to be restored from. The oldest backup they have is a month old.
Servint does have the Virtuozzo Power Panel now for those that are looking for that.
Edit: I should also say it took Servint a couple days to get me set up. That was because they had a hurricane going through. I don't think most places would be doing anything during such a disaster.

Please inform whoever is telling you this information, they are wrong.
We've discussed this before on other threads here on WHT. If the CPU cycles are available, you can use/burst on them, if not, the other methods that control cpu cycles and allocation per VPS take place.
Rate limiting/punishing everyone isn't the solution either, if i recall there was a thread recently about a provider who rate limits all their VPS', and even doing so, one user caused the box to run out of resources, causing problems across ALL VE's.
It is much more an art than a science, tuning, moving, *monitoring*, and making sure not a single VE can hurt others and take a box down.
DediPlace 10-28-2004, 01:16 AM Hi!
My account is now activated, and I'm in the process of setting up and moving accounts!
What can I say at this time? Support is super excellent! :)
Regards,
kb9tyc 10-28-2004, 01:32 AM So who did you pick?
DediPlace 10-28-2004, 01:51 AM Hi!
I picked Servint! :)

from your benchmarks
11:26:27 up 16 min, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
you must have rebooted the VPS or Server right before you ran it.
I do not think you can go wrong with ServInt.
Now there are some good reviews of DefenderHosting on WHM that now owns PowerVPS.
boxhosts 10-28-2004, 12:16 PM i own a powervps, i run the benchmark in any hour of day e the resuld is +40, i see the last result, if you need i run the benchmark for you now.....
not wrong of servint, its good company, i just prefer the best in my opinion is powervps....

Been using them for about 3 months. It has always seemed kinda sluggish to me. Everything takes just an extra half second or so(ftp, ssh, cpanel etc) to load. Support has been pretty good.

servint Essential VPS Package, just started using it, seems quite slow, any idea to tweak a little bit?

DediPlace 10-30-2004, 09:59 PM I would like to thank the people behind Servint. They have an awesome support. You are right, their support is top notch and no one can compete! They helped me a lot on transferring my files specially when I encountered one account that is so large that Cpanel to Cpanel is not working! Thanks guys!
dkitchen 10-30-2004, 10:04 PM Hi,
Been taking a look around some forums today, noticed how fast it loaded so decided to do a tracert, sure enough it was a Servint VPS.
I've heard good things about them, but also heard good things about Powervps, to be honest I'd just put the names in a hat and pick one out, I don't think you can go wrong with either ...
Dan
dindon 10-30-2004, 10:30 PM go with servint, you will find their support is really good. fast and very helpfull.
i never use power pvs so i can not say about them, but their sister vps defender is good too.
PowerVPS is as good of a company as ServInt is. Personally, I would go with PowerVPS.
