We are trying to create a backup strategy for dedicated Windows 2003 Servers. We have all our bakcup software setup and ready to go we just need to determine which folders/files we want to regularly backup on a Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition box being used as a basic web server.

Any recommendations?

We'd like to capture all website data, IIS configuration information, IIS extensions and email.

So you recommend:

C:\Inetpub\
C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\

Any other crucial files/folders besides these two?

For client data, backup the folder that stores the WEB files and the folder that stores the EMAILS. The locations will vary according to your installation.

Also, backup the INETSRV folder for the MetaBase as suggested by boonchuan. Depending on the Mail Server, either backup the database that holds the email accounts and passwords or the REGISTRY hive.

If you have a control panel in place, backup the database of the same.

If we want to backup the registery hive what specific folder(s) will we have to include in our backup template scripts?
